UC Davis Health’s Radiation Oncology Department seeks an Associate Chief Radiation Therapist to support the Chief in daily operations, coordinate patient treatment schedules, oversee room utilization, and orient staff to equipment. The Associate Chief may assist with research, advanced treatment techniques, and staff training programs, while providing clinical leadership and coordinating education for
he Associate Chief Radiation Therapist supports the Chief Radiation Therapist in managing the daily operations of the Radiation Oncology Department. Key responsibilities include reviewing and coordinating patient treatment schedules, overseeing room utilization, and conducting staff orientation to treatment equipment. This role has direct responsibility for staff scheduling, linear accelerator utilization, review of treatment plans, physician orders, and record-and-verify documentation prior to treatment initiation. The Associate Chief also serves as a resource for staff and collaborates on staff educational development initiatives.
In addition, this role ensures high-quality patient care, maintains compliance with safety and regulatory standards, and contributes to strategic planning and implementation of clinical protocols. The Associate Chief performs the full scope of duties of the Chief Radiation Therapist—excluding performance evaluations and timecard management. The role may also assist with research projects, innovative treatment techniques, or complex therapeutic procedures. Additional responsibilities include supporting training programs for student technologists, coordinating formal learning opportunities for staff and visiting professionals, collaborating on quality assurance initiatives, and facilitating staff safety and competency coordination.

UC Davis Health's National Cancer Institute Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center's Department of Radiation Oncology offers the most advanced, cutting-edge treatments for cancer patients through our state-of-the-art technologies, providing over 19,500 radiation therapy treatments to over 1,200 patients per year. Clinical services include, external beam and internal (brachytherapy) radiation therapy treatments including total body irradiation for bone marrow transplant, superficial radiotherapy, and stereotactic body and radiosurgery.
