Job summary

UW Health is seeking an Associate Chaplain for a part-time, per diem 20% FTE role with day/evening/night shifts. Hours vary by department needs. The position includes evening/night shift differential and on-call pay.

The Associate Chaplain will support spiritual care, communicate needs to the care team, and assist in integrating spiritual values into patient care. UW Health offers strong benefits and flexible scheduling.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required (CHEA-accredited).
  • One unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) required.
  • Master of Divinity or equivalent preferred.
  • Four CPE units in a hospital setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Follow the Staff Chaplain's assessment and integrate spiritual values into the care plan.
  • Communicate the patient's spiritual needs to the interdisciplinary care team.
  • Support patient/family as they align medical decisions with their beliefs during hospitalization.
  • Consult with the Staff Chaplain to support the interdisciplinary team.

Offer spiritual care services to patients and families, using theological and clinical training to help patients and families cope more effectively.

We are seeking an Associate Chaplain to:

  • Follow the Staff Chaplain's assessment of the patient's spiritual practices/values and assist in accommodating and integrating these values into the patient's medical plan of care.
  • Communicate the patient's spiritual needs to the patient's interdisciplinary health care team as appropriate.
  • Support the patient/family as they integrate implications of the suggested medical treatment plan in the framework of their spiritual beliefs, and as they work through difficult issues/challenges that may arise during hospitalization.
  • Consult with the Staff Chaplain to appropriately support the interdisciplinary health care team.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree from a school accredited by a member of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) Required
  • One unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) Required
  • Master of Divinity degree or Master’s level theological degree from a school accredited by a member of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) Preferred
  • Four units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) in a hospital setting Preferred
Work Experience
  • 2 years caregiving work experience Required
  • Endorsement or appropriate recognition of ministry by the governing body of the Associate Chaplain’s denomination/faith group Required
  • 2 years of hospital experience Preferred
Licenses & Certifications
  • Associate Certified or Board Certified Chaplain by a recognized national body Preferred
