Job summary

Pennoni is hiring a Bridge Engineer to join our Transportation Bridge Team located in our Hampton Roads office. This full-time, direct role offers a collaborative work environment at a leading ENR Top 500 consulting engineering firm.

You will perform structural analysis and NBIS inspections across the Mid-Atlantic region, working on highway and railroad projects and producing high-quality technical reports and specifications. Occasional travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related discipline.
• Successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam (EIT).
• 2+ years bridge inspection experience.
• Meet NBIS Topside Team Inspector requirements.
• Valid state driver’s license.
• Competent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Capable of self-leadership with attention to detail and learning new techniques.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Occasional travel/overnight travel may be required.
• Microstation or AutoCAD proficiency.

Responsibilities

Pennoni is hiring! Pennoni is looking for passionate Bridge Engineer to join our collaborative team on a full time, direct basis in Pennoni’s Transportation Bridge Team located in our Hampton Roads office.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Perform structural analysis and/or design of Bridges (Highway & Railroad), Waterfront Structures, Culverts, Retaining Walls, and Overhead Sign Structures on a variety of projects (bridge replacement/rehabilitation, highway improvement, etc.); this includes multi-disciplinary projects for VDOT, CBBTD, NCDOT, DDOT, MDOT, DelDOT, PennDOT, and other agencies/bridge owners throughout the Mid-Atlantic Region.
• Perform NBIS Bridge inspections in Virginia and North Carolina as well as the surrounding states (with occasional opportunities for domestic travel).
• Produce high-quality technical writing for use in bridge inspection reports, specifications, studies, and other engineering documents.
• Additional tasks may be assigned, as needed.

Required Attributes:

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related discipline (e.g.: Structural Engineering)
• Successfully passed the Fundamental of Engineering Exam (EIT)
• 2+ years bridge inspection experience.
• Meet NBIS Topside Team Inspector requirements
• Valid state driver’s license.
• Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others.
• Capable of self-leadership with attention to detail, ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instructions, and comply with company policies.
• Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet client objectives.
• Occasional travel/overnight travel will be required depending on project-specific requirements and project location.
• Microstation or AutoCAD proficiency

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with structural analysis programs (e.g.: STAAD, LEAP Bridge, LEAP Concrete, AASHTOWare, BrR, BRASS, SAP/CSI, etc.)
• Proficiency on basic office software applications, especially Microsoft Office 365.
• Proven ability to learn and apply new skills while simultaneously seeking / seizing opportunities to improve work products.
• Excellent communication skills (verbal & written).
• Experience with MS CoPilot or other AI platforms
