The Law Firm of Friedman + Bartoumian is a premier statewide firm seeking experienced California attorneys to join our team of workers’ compensation defense professionals. Over our 38 years of legal practice, we have developed vibrant long-term relationships with many of California’s largest commercial insurers, private employers, and public agencies.

This position is in our firm's Workers' Compensation Defense Group, focusing on the defense of all aspects of workers' compensation claims under California law.

Our attorneys have the choice of working remotely (except for in-person court appearances, depositions, meetings, etc. as professionally required) or in-person at one of F+B's five offices throughout California. The expected salary range for this position is $120,000—$250,000 per year. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors as permitted by law.

Key Responsibilities

1. Manage all aspects of WCAB litigation

2. Maintain consistent and meaningful communication with client representatives, including claims professionals, risk managers, and human resources executives

3. Prepare Initial Defense Analyses (IDAs) for new case files

4. Assess claim exposure

5. Conduct depositions of applicants, percipient witnesses, and expert witnesses

6. Conduct QME evaluations

7. Appear for hearings and trials before the WCAB

8. Bring claims to prompt, cost-effective resolutions

Required Qualifications

1. Prior professional experience as a California workers’ compensation attorney (defense side highly preferred)

2. Member of the California State Bar in good standing

3. Ability to meet minimum billable hours requirement of 190 hours per month / 2280 hours per year

4. Ability to work in a paperless environment

Preferred Qualifications

1. Proficiency in MerusCase legal practice management software

2. Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook
