Job summary

Jobot, a well-respected full-service law firm in Sacramento, seeks an experienced Labor & Employment Attorney - Defense. The role offers a hybrid schedule (3 days in office, 2 remote) with a salary range of $130,000 to $250,000 per year.

You will advise employers, represent the organization in legal proceedings, and stay current on evolving employment laws. Eligible candidates must have a JD, California Bar membership, and at least 3 years in labor and employment law.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and active California Bar membership.
• Minimum of 3 years of labor and employment law experience; defense background preferred but not required.
• Excellent legal research and writing skills.
• Strong negotiation and representation capabilities in disputes.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; adheres to high ethical standards.
• Proficient with legal research tools and software.

Responsibilities

• Represent the organization in mediations, arbitrations, and court proceedings.
• Conduct thorough legal research to provide timely advice.
• Prepare and review contracts, agreements, and policies.
• Collaborate with attorneys and staff to develop defense strategies.
• Stay current on labor and employment law changes to ensure compliance.
• Provide training to management and HR on labor and employment matters.
• Assist in managing litigation activities, budgeting, and reporting.

Job Details

Responsibilities:

• Advise employers—including private businesses and public agencies—on a range of employment issues, such as workplace policies, employee relations, wage and hour compliance, and risk management.
• Represent the organization in all legal proceedings, including mediations, arbitrations, and court trials.
• Conduct thorough legal research to provide accurate and timely advice to the organization.
• Prepare and review legal documents such as contracts, agreements, and policies to ensure they are legally sound and in the best interest of the organization.
• Collaborate with other attorneys and legal staff to develop defense strategies.
• Stay abreast of changes in labor and employment laws and regulations to ensure the organization's compliance.
• Provide training and guidance to management and HR personnel on labor and employment law matters.
• Assist in managing the organization's litigation activities, including budgeting and reporting.

Qualifications:

• Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school.
• Must be a member in good standing with the California State Bar.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in labor and employment law, preferably in a defense role, but NOT REQUIRED
• Excellent legal research and writing skills.
• Demonstrated ability to provide sound legal advice on complex labor and employment law issues.
• Strong negotiation and representation skills, with a proven track record of successful dispute resolution.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with clients, colleagues, and other stakeholders.
• Proven commitment to maintaining the highest level of professional and ethical standards.
• Proficiency in using legal research tools and software.
