Title: Civil Litigation Attorney - Defense
Established Atlanta defense firm is hiring a litigation associate to assist on auto/transportation and other civil cases. This position is fully onsite in Atlanta.
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Civil Litigation Attorney to join our defense practice. The ideal candidate will handle complex civil litigation matters on behalf of insurance carriers and corporate clients, with a focus on defense strategy, case management, and trial preparation. This role requires strong analytical and advocacy skills, sound judgment, and the ability to manage a busy caseload from intake through resolution.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a diverse caseload of civil defense matters including auto, premises liability, and personal injury claims from inception through resolution.
- Develop and implement defense strategies in coordination with clients and claims teams, including coverage analysis and litigation budgeting.
- Draft and respond to pleadings, motions, discovery requests, and settlement documents; conduct legal research and prepare written memoranda.
- Represent clients at depositions, mediations, arbitration hearings and trials; prepare witnesses and coordinate with expert witnesses and investigators.
- Advise clients and adjusters on coverage issues, indemnity exposure, and claims handling to minimize risk and cost.
- Negotiate settlements and manage resolution strategies that align with client goals and cost containment.
- Maintain accurate case management records, meet deadlines, and communicate regularly with clients, opposing counsel, and court personnel.
- Supervise and mentor junior attorneys, paralegals, and support staff as needed; participate in client meetings and business development activities.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school and active license to practice law in the relevant state(s).
- 3+ years of civil litigation experience with a defense focus; experience with insurance defense and coverage matters strongly preferred.
- Proven experience handling auto, premises liability, and personal injury cases, including trial and alternative dispute resolution experience.
- Excellent written and oral advocacy skills, strong legal research and drafting abilities, and attention to detail.
- Ability to evaluate risk, develop practical defense strategies, and communicate effectively with clients and claims professionals.
- Comfortable managing a busy caseload, prioritizing tasks, meeting deadlines, and working both independently and as part of a team.
- Familiarity with court rules, civil procedure, evidence rules, and electronic case filing systems; experience with litigation management software a plus.
Salary:
$120k-$150k DOE
