University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) is seeking an Associate Athletic Trainer to provide comprehensive athletic training services to NCAA Division I student-athletes. You will collaborate with physicians, coaches, sports performance staff, and other healthcare professionals to promote health, safety, and performance.

The role includes injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and return-to-play management across assigned programs, with opportunities to mentor students

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from CAATE-accredited athletic training program required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Maryland Athletic Trainer licensure or eligibility required.
  • BOC certification current; CPR/AED certification current for the Professional Rescuer.

Responsibilities

  • Provide prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and return-to-play management for NCAA Division I student-athletes.
  • Coordinate medical coverage for practices, competitions, and travel.
  • Collaborate with physicians and healthcare providers for specialty care and testing.
  • Maintain accurate medical documentation per NCAA, HIPAA, FERPA, and University policies.
  • Develop injury prevention strategies and emergency action plans.
  • Communicate athlete health status while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Assist with administrative tasks including documentation, inventory, policy implementation, and quality improvement.
  • Serve as a preceptor/mentor for athletic training students and assist with staff development.
  • Participate in committees and professional development activities.

Position Overview

The University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) is seeking an Associate Athletic Trainer to join the Department of Athletics, Sports Medicine and Performance. Reporting to the Associate Athletic Director for Sports Medicine and Performance, the Associate Athletic Trainer will provide comprehensive athletic training services to NCAA Division I student-athletes while collaborating with physicians, coaches, sports performance staff, and other healthcare professionals to promote the health, safety, and performance of student-athletes.

  • Providing prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and return-to-play management of athletic injuries and illnesses for assigned NCAA Division I sport programs.
  • Coordinating medical coverage for assigned team practices, competitions, and team travel as required.
  • Collaborating with team physicians and other healthcare providers to coordinate specialty care, diagnostic testing, and treatment plans.
  • Maintaining accurate and timely medical documentation in accordance with NCAA, HIPAA, FERPA, America East Conference, and University policies.
  • Developing and implementing injury prevention strategies, emergency action plans, and evidence-based rehabilitation programs.
  • Communicating effectively with coaches, student-athletes, physicians, sports performance staff, and campus partners regarding athlete health and participation status while maintaining appropriate medical confidentiality.
  • Assisting with departmental administrative responsibilities, including medical documentation, inventory management, policy implementation, insurance coordination, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Serving as a preceptor and mentor for athletic training students and assisting with the orientation and development of new staff as assigned.
  • Participating in departmental committees, professional development activities, and other duties that support the mission of the Department of Athletics, Sports Medicine and Performance.
Required Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from a CAATE-accredited athletic training program (Master’s degree preferred)
  • Current BOC certification
  • Maryland Athletic Trainer licensure (or eligibility)
  • Current CPR/AED certification for the Professional Rescuer
  • Minimum of two years of collegiate or equivalent athletic training experience
  • Excellent clinical decision-making, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated commitment to providing exceptional healthcare to student-athletes.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in NCAA Division I athletics and/or basketball preferred.
  • Tuition remission at UMBC for eligible dependents after two years of FT employment

Salary

Salary: $57,000 - $64,000 depending on qualifications and experience.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations.

The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
