Job summary

AIA Colorado is hiring across two related roles in Denver: Assistant Architectural Associate and Associate Architect. This full-time, on-site position invites candidates with varying years of experience to contribute to our Denver Commercial team and grow within a culture that values excellence in design and execution.

Qualifications

  • Professional degree in Architecture, Design, or a related discipline (in process or completed for the Assistant role)
  • Familiarity with all phases of project delivery and working knowledge of project design and construction documentation production (Associate Architect)
  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD/CAD, SketchUp, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office, and Lumion
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills; resourceful, detail-oriented, and motivated to learn
  • Collaborative, professional, and team-focused work ethic

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate an understanding of site analysis, preliminary design studies, and field measurements
  • Support the design process and contribute to team success by adhering to firm and project goals and standards of excellence
  • Support the preparation of creative and innovative design ideas, concepts, and solutions
  • Perform product research and assist the team with material selections
  • Assist in preparing client presentation materials using design application skills and creative ideas
  • Approach tasks in an organized, timely, and consistent waySelf-check work for accuracy, omissions, and legibility, and compile data for document compliance in accordance with firm standards and checklists
  • Participate in design reviews, charrettes, and pin-ups
  • Maintain open communication within the team and with the designated team leader
  • Communicate ideas and thoughts in a way that inspires and empowers others
  • Assistant Architectural Associate (Emphasis): Aid the drafting and architectural documentation team under the direction of senior team members
  • Assist throughout the design process under routine guidance
  • Provide support on studio activities
  • Use a creative approach to perform tasks and responsibilities on projects
  • Associate Architect (Emphasis): Prepare drawings for schematic design, design development, and construction documents, including: Design sketches, Renderings and visualizations, BIM modeling
  • Graphics, details, sections, elevations, and schedules
  • Apply creative judgment and design thinking to project work
  • Develop high-quality presentation materials and participate in client meetings as appropriate
  • Compile data and perform basic design computations
  • Assist in the preparation of amendments, addenda, and bulletins
  • Perform site analysis, field measurements, surveys of existing conditions, and documentation
  • Work closely with project teams to understand workflow, responsibilities, and coordination efforts
  • Utilize strong technical skills in Revit and other design software to support project delivery
  • Assist with coordination among internal team members and external consultants
  • Prepare Construction Administration documentation under the supervision of an Architect or Senior Architect
  • Continue developing technical, design, and professional skills through hands-on project experience

We are hiring across two related positions—Assistant Architectural Associate and Associate Architect for motivated individuals eager to build and advance their skills. Both roles work as integral members of the Denver Commercial team, contributing to our standards of excellence in design, execution, and living design. Which position fits you depends on your experience and familiarity with the full project delivery process. Salary will be commensurate with experience.

The Positions
Assistant Architectural Associate
  • Experience: 0–3+ years
  • Certificates/Licenses: None required
  • Degree: In process of completing, or having completed, a professional degree in Architecture, Design, or a related discipline
Associate Architect
  • Experience: 0–5+ years (typically 2–5 years working on architectural projects)
  • Degree: Professional degree in Architecture, Design, or related discipline
  • Additional: Familiarity with all phases of project delivery and working knowledge of project design and construction documentation production

Applicable across both roles, with depth increasing at the Associate Architect level:
