Job summary

Uber in Seattle is seeking an actuarial candidate with strong analytical and coding skills to support Commercial Auto insurance and other coverages. You will estimate unpaid claims liability, contribute to the quarterly reserving process, and build data visualization tools to drive informed IBNR decisions.

The role requires 4+ CAS exams and 3+ years in P&C actuarial work, withExcel and SQL proficiency. Collaborative, cross-functional environment with opportunities across finance and claims teams.

Qualifications

• BA/BS Math, Statistics, Economics, Actuarial Science or related field.

Responsibilities

• Deploy actuarial skills to support Uber's Commercial Auto insurance and other coverages through unpaid claims liability estimation.
• Contribute to the Quarterly Reserving Process: data creation/validation, analysis, selections, communication, and financial implementation.
• Build detailed claims analysis and data visualization tools to inform IBNR selections and identify opportunities in claims/finance.
• Collaborate with insurance finance, data science, claims analytics, and actuarial peers to develop analytic processes and deliverables.
• Present findings to actuarial management and internal stakeholders including claims, accounting, and insurance leaders.

What You'll Do

• Deploy traditional actuarial skills and training in new and innovative ways to support Uber's Commercial Auto insurance and other coverages through the estimation of unpaid claims liability
• Contribute to the Quarterly Reserving Process, including data creation and validation, analysis and selections, internal and external communication, as well as financial implementation
• Build detailed claims analysis and data visualization tools to inform accurate IBNR selections and to identify operational opportunities in Uber's business and claims functions
• Work closely with various parties, including insurance finance, data science, claims analytics, and your actuarial peers in the development of analytic process and deliverables
• Communicate/present analysis findings to actuarial management and other internal stakeholders, including claims, accounting, and insurance leaders

Basic Qualifications

• Candidate with 4+ CAS Exams and a minimum of 3 years of Property & Casualty (P&C) actuarial experience
• Excel skills, proficient with SQL (or similar querying language)
• BA/BS Math, Statistics, Economics, Actuarial Science or Similar

Preferred Qualifications

• ACAS/FCAS designation
• Experience with commercial or personal auto insurance
• Motivation to dive into the details of analysis and learn complex topics from first principles and hands-on experience
• Great communication and organization skills, ability to multitask and be a team player
• Balance attention to detail with swift and practical execution
• Drive to learn complex topics
• Experience working cross functionally with claims and finance
• Experience with Python, R, or similar coding languages

For New York City, NY-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD $131,000 per year - USD $145,000 per year.

For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD $131,000 per year - USD $145,000 per year.

For Seattle, WA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD $118,000 per year - USD $131,000 per year.

for all US locations, you will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp. All full-time employees are eligible to participate in a 401(k) plan. You will also be eligible for various benefits.
