As an Associate Actuarial Director, you will be empowered, supported and encouraged to use your actuarial expertise as you perform financial analyses and build models that improve health plan competitiveness.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Contribute to actuarial direction and strategy to balance growth and profitability goals
  • Assist junior actuaries with on-the-job training, as well as general development
  • Perform actuarial analyses in support of benefit strategy, trend projections and network optimization for a book of large, national employers
  • Build relationships with external consulting partners to benefit our mutual clients
  • Lead internal and external presentations, translating highly complex concepts in ways that can be understood by a variety of audiences

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in actuarial science, math, finance, data science, economics or other quantitative field
  • 6+ years of experience working in a corporate environment, including experience collecting, analyzing and summarizing qualitative/quantitative data
  • Actuarial experience, either through exams passed or relevant work experience
  • Expertise working with formulas, calculations, charts and graphs in MS Excel
  • Intermediate or higher level of proficiency with Word and PowerPoint
  • Critical thinking skills that allow you to push through the data and find effective solutions
  • Emerging leadership skills, either in a professional setting or another forum, such as volunteer work

Preferred Qualifications

  • ASA (Associate of the Society of Actuaries) or FSA (Fellow of the Society of Actuaries) designation, or progress towards actuarial credentials
  • Experience working in finance or the health care industry
  • Experience working in employee benefits consulting
  • Experience working with PowerBI, R, and/or Python
  • Experience building quantitative models in SQL (Structured Query Language), SAS (Statistical Analysis System) and/or VBA (Visual Basic for Applications)
  • Solid communication skills, particularly in conveying complex financial and actuarial topics to non-expert audiences
  • All employees working remotely will be required to adhere to UnitedHealth Group’s Telecommuter Policy

The salary range for this role is $106,800 to $194,200 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with al minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
