Work Shift: Standard 8am-5pm schedule (Flexible Work Arrangement may be considered following probationary period)

Position Overview
The Associate Academic Advisor participates in planning and delivery of academic advising/counseling services and programs that promote comprehensive educational opportunities for students in the College of Education. The role cooperates with faculty, staff, and administrators to meet the advising needs of individual or group students, and it supports student progression toward a 4‑year graduation.
Responsibilities
- Advising: Advise current and prospective students on degree requirements; participate in advising sessions during Freshman and Transfer Orientation sessions; participate in bi‑annual Advisor retreats to evaluate current advising practices and implement new advising strategies for COE students; coordinate one or more First‑year Interest Groups.
- Administrative: Maintain accurate and updated student records using writable PDF documents stored on the UT Box system. Assist in the evaluation of degree progression via the Interactive Degree Audit system. Assist with outreach to students to aid their progression toward a 4‑yr graduation. Collaborate with the career engagement office to promote internship and career opportunities for education majors.
- Outreach & Recruitment: Visit prospective students and parents in appointments set up by the Freshman Admissions office, the COE Student Success and Recruitment office, or the Dean's Office.
- Special Events: Represent COE at various events throughout the year including commencement ceremonies, special lectures, Gone to Texas, Honors Day, admissions and outreach events, and Family Weekend.
- Professional Development: Membership of Academic Counselor Association (ACA) on campus.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a related field and four years of experience working with college students in an academic setting.
- Experience can be in academic advising, counseling, new student services, student success, assessment, and/or administration of student academic and support programs.
- Demonstrated experience working effectively in a team environment.
- Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Demonstrated experience managing multiple projects and working under deadlines.
- Comfortable with public speaking, including phone calls, delivering presentations and communicating with individuals.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a related field and two years of experience in academic advising, counseling, new student services, student success, assessment, and/or administration of student academic and support programs.
- Experience with UT student services procedures and/or experience in student personnel programs. Knowledge of university resources and administrative applications. Familiarity with campus culture and student life.
- Demonstrated ability to multi‑task and handle concurrent projects with accuracy, diplomacy, and discretion.
- Ability to take initiative and work independently.
- Ability to problem solve and maintain composure when faced with a challenge.
- Ability to work efficiently and effectively under pressure and with frequent interruptions.
- Must be able to relate to the students' needs, support their success and have difficult discussions when the need arises.
Salary Range
$50,000 + depending on qualifications
