Job summary

Top Corner Capital LLC is an early-stage venture capital firm based in the Bay Area. We are seeking an Associate to join a small, entrepreneurial team and take on diligence, modeling, and investment memo work while helping to generate deal flow through active networking with founders and investors.

You will work closely with portfolio companies on fundraising and strategic projects, interface with managing partners, and help build the Top Corner brand.

Qualifications

• Based in the Bay Area with the ability to work in a local environment.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience post-undergraduate, preferably in investment banking, management consulting, venture capital or a tech company.
• Strong academic performance and an undergraduate degree from a top institution.
• Excellent analytical acumen with a financial background and ability to build complex financial models.
• Outstanding written skills to write investment memos and distill communication with portfolio companies and investors.
• Strong presentation and communication skills to interact with founders, CEOs, CFOs, VCs, lawyers, etc.
• Comfortable with outbound marketing, branding, networking and generating deal flow for the fund.
• Desire to work with early-stage Seed/Series A startups and build a career in technology.
• High integrity, self-starter, proactive and organized in a lean, entrepreneurial environment.

Responsibilities

• Diligence and execution duties including writing investment memos, modeling hypothetical returns and conducting market research.
• Communicating with portfolio companies, monitoring progress and updating financial models and memos.
• Working with portfolio companies on fundraising and business strategy discussions.
• Proactive networking to generate deal flow with other Associates, VCs and tech founders.
• Building Top Corner brand and leading marketing efforts, including social media.
• Internal projects to help grow Top Corner Capital and support partners.
• Collaborating closely with two managing partners on various fund activities.
• Taking on diverse tasks and responsibilities as a foundational member of a small team.
• Joining at the ground floor of a growing venture fund and leaving a personal mark.
• Engaging with high-profile venture-backed tech companies and other venture funds.
• Learning how to become an investor and building a VC career.
• Participating in extensive networking opportunities in tech and venture capital.
• Assuming substantial responsibility and direct exposure to senior partners.
• Possible option to stay on after 2 years with promotion, if earned.

Top Corner Capital is an early-stage venture capital firm based in the Bay Area. Founded in 2020, Top Corner invests both debt and equity in Seed and Series A stage companies across enterprise software, fintech, consumer and healthcare.

Candidate Qualifications

• Based in the Bay Area
• Minimum of 2 years of experience post undergraduate school, preferably within investment banking, management consulting, venture capital or a technology company
• Strong academic performance and an undergraduate degree from a top institution
• Excellent analytical acumen with a financial background and demonstrated ability to work with financials and large data sets to build complex financial models
• Outstanding written skills and ability to write compelling investment memos, generate investment theses and distill communication with portfolio companies and investors
• Strong presentation and communication skills coupled with the maturity to work with Founders, CEOs, CFOs, other VCs, lawyers etc.
• Comfortable with outbound marketing, brand building, and networking, developing contacts, building social media presence and generating deal flow for the fund
• Ability and desire to work with early-stage companies, especially with Seed or Series A stage startups and a clear passion to build a career within the technology industry
• High integrity and a self-starter, able to thrive in an entrepreneurial environment that requires one to be proactive, independent and organized

Associate Role

• Top Corner is an early stage fund that will require the Associate to take on many roles as it is a small team
• Strong focus on diligence and execution, which includes writing investment memos, modeling hypothetical returns and doing market research
• Communicating with existing portfolio companies, monitoring progress and updating financial models and memos
• Working with existing portfolio companies on fundraising and business strategy projects and discussions
• Proactive networking with other Associates at VCs and tech founders to generate deal flow
• Building Top Corner brand and leading marketing efforts, including social media
• Internal work on other miscellaneous projects to help continue to build Top Corner Capital
• Working very closely with the two managing partners in many different aspects of managing a venture fund
• Willing to do a wide variety of tasks and assuming a great deal of responsibility
• Getting in at the ground floor of a growing venture fund
• Being one of the early builders of the firm, which allows you to add significant value and leave your mark
• Working with high-profile venture-backed tech companies and other venture funds
• Learning how to become an investor and how to build a career in venture capital
• Extensive networking opportunities in tech and venture capital
• Having a tremendous amount of responsibility
• Getting direct, unique exposure to learning from proven managing partners in venture capital
