Job summary

MKS Instruments, Inc. is seeking an Assoc Analytical Chemist to partner with Operations, support laboratory analyses, interpret test results, and contribute to process improvements and technical problem solving.

You will report to the Lab Manager and work on onsite lab operations in Rock Hill, SC. The role requires a Bachelor of Science in Engineering or equivalent, 1+ year of related experience, and familiarity with instrumentation and chemical safety.

Responsibilities

  • Operate analytical instruments (GC, IC, HPLC, UV/VIS, AAS, ICP) and ensure proper calibration and maintenance.
  • Prepare samples following procedures with accurate measurement, mixing, dilution or extraction.
  • Conduct experiments to analyze chemical compositions and record data accurately.
  • Assist data analysis using appropriate software to identify trends and conclusions.

Job description

A Day in Your Life at MKS:

As an Assoc Analytical Chemist at MKS | Atotech, you will partner with Operations to support laboratory analysis, interpret test results, and contribute to process improvement and technical problem-solving activities. In this role, you will report to the Lab Manager.

You Will Make an Impact By:
  • Prepare samples for analysis by following established protocols and procedures. This may involve measuring, weighing, mixing, diluting, or extracting substances
  • Operate analytical instruments such as chromatographs, spectrometers, mass spectrometers, and various other laboratory equipment used for chemical analysis. They ensure that instruments are calibrated, maintained, and operated correctly
  • Conduct experiments and tests to analyze the chemical composition of substances. They collect and record data accurately, ensuring that it is organized and properly documented for analysis and interpretation
  • Assist in the analysis of experimental data using statistical and analytical techniques. They may use software programs to process and interpret results, identify trends, and draw conclusions
  • Participate in quality control procedures to ensure that laboratory operations meet established standards and regulatory requirements. This includes following safety protocols, maintaining cleanliness and organization in the laboratory, and adhering to quality assurance practices
  • Identify and troubleshoot issues that may arise during experiments or instrument operation. They work collaboratively with senior chemists to resolve technical problems and optimize experimental procedures
Skills You Bring:
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree or equivalent experience
  • 1+ year of related experience
  • Familiarity with instrumentation and chemical safety
Preferred Skills:
  • Prior experience with troubleshooting analytical instruments
  • Experience with SAP and related software
  • General knowledge of lab tools such as pipettes, burettes, balances and other various labware
  • Working knowledge of analytical instrumentation such as GC, IC, HPLC, UV/VIS, AAS, ICP

Physical Demands and Working Conditions: Perform activities such as sitting, standing, for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Regularly requires good manual dexterity and coordination. Occasionally moves/positions objects up to 50 pounds. Frequently positions self to perform tasks and positions objects below, at, and above shoulder level. Must have the ability to lift and handle chemical and laboratory equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended amounts of time. Operates in a laboratory/manufacturing environment. Constantly interacts with specialized equipment and machinery for chemical operations. Attention to safety protocols is paramount to mitigate risks associated with chemical operation. Noise levels in the work environment are typically moderate. Occasional exposure to chemicals and fumes may occur; adherence to safety guidelines is mandatory

This position is onsite and candidates must be within commutable distance to Rock Hill, SC. Relocation benefits are not available for this position.
