• Bilingual in Spanish and/or Portuguese (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Provide technical assistance, training, and statewide support to advance assistive technology use across the lifespan.
• Collaborate with state agencies, schools, service providers, and families to increase access and promote evidence-based practices.
• Develop and deliver training; conduct consultation and technical assistance; research emerging technologies and policies.

Job description

Rhode Island College invites applicants for the position of Assistive Technology Specialist. This is a full-time, calendar-year, grant-funded position.

The Assistive Technology Specialist provides technical assistance, training, and statewide support to advance the use of assistive technology for individuals with developmental disabilities across the lifespan. Working within the Sherlock Center on Disabilities, this position collaborates with state agencies, schools, community organizations, service providers, and families to increase access to assistive technology, promote evidence-based practices, and strengthen Rhode Island's capacity to support individuals with disabilities. The specialist develops and delivers training, provides consultation and technical assistance, researches emerging technologies and policies, identifies funding opportunities, and creates accessible resources to support equitable access to assistive technology services. The role also contributes to statewide initiatives, outreach efforts, data collection, and collaborative partnerships that promote independence, inclusion, and improved outcomes for individuals with disabilities.

Required Qualifications

• Master's Degree in a major field of study or degree emphasis in Special Education or a Related Service.


• Advanced training in Assistive Technology.


• Experience with people with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD).

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of 5 years of experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities with assistive technology.


• Experience supporting individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities.


• Bilingual in Spanish and/or Portuguese.
