Job description

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Under the general direction of a dean, an Instructor provides comprehensive classroom instruction to students from diverse backgrounds to facilitate the attainment of their academic or vocational objectives.

  • Provide group and one‑on‑one instruction in assistive computer technology courses.
  • Comply with district, college and DSP&S policies and regulations for instructional settings.
  • Provide academic instruction through lecture, lab, or performance courses; assess and develop cognitive, communication, and higher‑order thinking skills among students with appropriate assignments and activities.
  • Advise and instruct students regarding programs of study, other institutions, lifelong learning resources, and effective study skills; refer students to support services and resources as appropriate.
  • Observe and evaluate student performance in meeting course objectives and learning outcomes through assignments, projects, discussions, and examinations; provide timely feedback.
  • Plan and organize instruction according to approved course outlines and student learning outcomes to maximize student learning in alignment with department, college, and district goals.
  • Maintain accurate records of enrollment, attendance, academic progress, curriculum, and learning outcomes; prepare and submit data and reports on time.
  • Evaluate and select instructional materials such as textbooks, manuals, software, and tools; order materials per campus procedures.
  • Participate in curriculum and program development, update syllabi, collaborate to assess and revise measurable performance indicators for courses.
  • Revise and update course content and materials in line with new theory, applications, and industry developments.
  • Attend and participate in committees and meetings; may participate in articulation and matriculation activities.
  • May provide work direction to others.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Established in 1925, Ventura College is located approximately 60 miles north of Los Angeles and 30 miles south of Santa Barbara, on a 112‑acre campus with views of the Channel Islands. Enrollment is 14,500 students.

QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s, or equivalent foreign degree, in disability, special education, education, psychology, educational psychology, or rehabilitation counseling AND 15 semester units of upper‑division or graduate study in adapted computer technology (or equivalent); OR possession of an appropriate California Community College Credential.

All coursework must be from a recognized accredited institution.

If credentials are not an exact match, you must submit a Supplemental Questionnaire for Equivalency.

Foreign transcripts must be evaluated by an approved agency and submitted with the application.

PAY PHILOSOPHY

Annual salary is based on a ten‑month contract. Salary is commensurate with academic preparation and experience. Advanced salary credit for prior experience is up to seven steps on the full‑time academic salary schedule. Fringe benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance.

$61,599 – $129,347

STARTING SALARY

$61,599 – $107,791
