Job summary

School City of Hammond is seeking a Special Education Assistive Technology Specialist to assess and implement AT/AAC tools for students ages 3–22. You will coach teams, provide professional development, manage AT resources, and promote access across services.

Responsibilities include evaluating AT options, organizing tools across low/mid/high-tech, delivering training, documenting AT in IEPs, and collaborating with SLPs, OTs, PTs, teachers, and families.

Qualifications

  • Must meet one of the following: Special Education Focus with Indiana license and certification.
  • SLP Focus with IDOE SLP license, IPLA registration and CCC/ASHA CFY eligibility.
  • SLPA Focus with Indiana licensure and IPLA registration.
  • Minimum three years of experience in special education.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct team-based AT evaluations and feature matching for communication devices and tools.
  • Assist teams in selecting AT tools across low-, mid-, high-tech continua and vocab systems.
  • Design and deliver training and professional development for staff, students, and families.
  • Coach teams on communication strategies and document AT within the IEP.
  • Collaborate with SLPs, OTs, PTs, teachers, parents, and private providers.
  • Support IEP teams with AT documentation at case conferences.
  • Apply UDL principles to classroom environments.
  • Identify AT resources and advise families on funding options.
  • Manage district AT device inventory and related processes.
  • Serve as district contact for AT and coordinate with representatives.
