Job summary

Elizabethton City Schools is seeking an Assistant Wrestling Coach to support the Head Wrestling Coach and help develop student-athletes in a competitive program emphasizing skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

The role requires on-site presence, collaboration with staff, and adherence to district policies. Experience in wrestling and required coaching certifications are preferred, with a focus on student growth and safety.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Previous wrestling experience (participation and/or coaching) preferred.
• Knowledge of wrestling techniques, rules, and training methods.
• Ability to work collaboratively with coaching staff and school personnel.
• Must complete all required coaching certifications and trainings as required by TSSAA and district.
• Must meet all health requirements and pass background check.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning and conducting practices to develop wrestling skills and conditioning.
• Instruct student-athletes on wrestling rules, strategies, and techniques.
• Support the implementation of program goals set by the Head Coach.
• Supervise student-athletes during practice, matches, travel, and related activities.
• Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, discipline, and respect among student-athletes.
• Ensure compliance with TSSAA rules, school policies, and district expectations.
• Assist with match preparation, including lineup decisions and coaching support during matches.
• Emphasize safety and injury prevention and management techniques.
• Coordinate schedules, facility usage, and transportation with Head Coach and Athletic Director.
• Assist with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment and uniforms.
• Model professionalism and effective communication with students, parents, and staff.
