Job description

SUMMARY OF OPPORTUNITY

The Assistant Wrestling Coach assists with all coaching related activities, developing and sustaining a successful program with a strong emphasis in skill development, sportsmanship, teamwork, and character development with a degree of discipline. The Assistant Wrestling Coach will play an integral part in developing the IPS feeder system, developing participants with varying skill levels and preparing them for high school competition. Candidates must demonstrate a proven aptitude for coaching, a strong work ethic, organizational skills, and the ability to produce results. The Assistant Coach reports to the Head Coach and Athletic Coordinator, and performance is evaluated by the Athletic Coordinator and Principal. The wrestling season runs from February to March.

WHAT YOU’LL DO
  • Assist with planning, organizing, promoting, and conducting tryouts for the sport.
  • May be required to work with the Head Coach and Athletic Coordinator to schedule meets.
  • Help coach during each meet.
  • Help develop appropriate training programs and practice schedules.
  • Help study the skills and abilities of each student‑athlete on the team and position them for success.
  • Create a safe environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of student‑athletes.
  • Travel with student‑athletes and team personnel on the team bus to and from games.
  • Maintain necessary records and complete required paperwork in a specified time and manner.
  • Help enforce discipline policies and emphasize sportsmanship and healthy lifestyles.
  • Help supervise student‑athletes in locker rooms at home and away meets and ensure appropriate behavior.
  • Help ensure the rules and regulations of conduct and eligibility of student‑athletes are effectively communicated and followed throughout the year.
  • Help work to build relationships with IPS high school programs to familiarize students with participation at the next level.
  • Professionally represent the school and the district in interactions with students, parents, the crowd, staff, officials, competition, and others.

  • Sufficient knowledge of the sport of wrestling.
  • Ability to motivate, teach, and recruit qualified student‑athletes.
  • The ability to handle stressful situations and keep tempers in check.
  • Exhibits high standards of professional ethics and conduct.
