Job summary

RE 1 Valley Schools Sterling is seeking an Assistant Wrestling Coach to support and lead wrestling activities. The role includes the responsibility of coaching under the Head Coach's direction, overseeing students' safety during practices, and maintaining a high standard of conduct among participants.

The ideal candidate will have a background in high school wrestling coaching and possess strong communication skills. A stipend of $3,018 will be awarded at the end of the wrestling season for this position.

Assistant Wrestling Coach

Stipend opportunities - $3,018 to be paid at the end of the wrestling season 2025-2026.

Responsibilities

• Acts under the direction of the Head Coach and Athletic Director.
• Assumes functions and duties of the head coach in their absence.
• Coaches individual participants in the skills necessary for effective performance in the activity, as individuals & team members.
• Plans and directs a regular program of practice in season.
• Maintains competency in rules, regulations, and coaching techniques for the sport/activity.
• Maintains discipline and sportsmanlike conduct of all participants and enforces the policies of the District uniformly when disciplining participants.
• Coordinates freshman participants at interscholastic competition and in practice.
• Supervises student athletes when traveling.
• Oversees the safety conditions for students and facility, and the areas in which the sport is conducted during all times students are present.
• Demonstrates cooperative conduct.
• Shares in responsibility for equipment, distribution, collection and inventory.
• Other functions may be required as given or assigned.

Qualifications

• Knowledgeable in the techniques and strategies for the sport/activity.
• Background/experience in coaching high school wrestling, or equivalent preferred.
• Ability to read & interpret documents such as safety rules, operating & maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to follow both oral and written directions & instructions from the head coach and/or athletic director.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to effectively communicate, orally and in writing, with students, parents, staff and the community.
• Ability to handle stressful situations.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of employment and student matters.
• Ability to perform duties with an awareness of all district requirements and board policies.
• Ability to effectively manage time and responsibilities.
• Other qualifications as deemed necessary by the athletic director.
