Assistant Women's Volleyball Coach

Position Summary:

The primary responsibility of this role is to instruct and develop student-athletes in alignment with the university's academic mission. The assistant coach supports the head coach in managing various aspects of the athletic program. This is an entry-level, year-round position with flexible hours averaging approximately 1,655 hours annually (0.80 FTE). Flexibility for evenings and weekends is required. Compensation is modest but includes benefits such as health coverage, retirement, meal plan, and paid time off. The position is classified as exempt under FLSA regulations.

Responsibilities:

1. Coaching/Teaching (80%)
   • Instruct student-athletes in rules, techniques, and strategies during practices and competitions.
   • Provide feedback and mentorship to improve athletic performance, sportsmanship, and academics.
   • Promote physical and mental well-being of student-athletes.
2. Secondary Duties (20%)
   • Support game day operations and logistical tasks for other athletic programs.
   • Assist with recruiting strategies to attract qualified student-athletes.
   • Help plan and execute practices, training, and game strategies.
   • Participate in fundraising, promotional events, and alumni outreach as directed.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree with no experience required, or three years of relevant playing or coaching experience.

Skills and Abilities:

• Knowledge of NCAA rules and compliance.
• Strong coaching, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to motivate and mentor student-athletes and foster an inclusive team environment.
• Ability to assess developmental needs and provide targeted coaching.

Additional Requirements:

• Valid driver's license and eligibility to operate university vehicles.
• CPR, AED, and First Aid certification.
• Complete annual Campus Security Authority training and report Clery Act crimes.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

• Ability to remain stationary or move about facilities as needed.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with or without accommodations.
• Effective communication skills for coaching and feedback.
• Willingness to travel and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Engage physically during practices and competitions.
