Fluvanna County Public Schools in Palmyra, Virginia, seeks an Assistant Athletic Coach for Winter Track 2026-27. This is a part-time, non-benefited stipend position reporting to the Head Coach, Athletic Director and Principal.
You will assist with practices, supervise athletes, ensure compliance with VHSL rules, coordinate with staff, and help maintain equipment and facilities. A valid Virginia driver's license and prior coaching experience are preferred.

Job Title: Assistant Athletic Coach - Track (Winter)
Reports To: Head Coach, Athletic Director and Principal
Salary Scale : Stipend - Part-time, non-benefited position
Supervises: Athletes and team assigned. Assumes supervisory control over all athletes in program when such control is needed
Job Goal: To carry out the aims and objectives of the sport program as outlined by the head coach and school administration. To instruct athletes in individual and team fundamental strategy and physical training necessary to realize a degree of individual and team success.
Duties and Responsibilities:
A. Has a working knowledge of all the athletic policies approved by the schoolboard and is responsible for it’s implementation.
B. Has knowledge of the existing school district, state and league regulations.Implements same consistently.
C. Understands the proper administrative line of command and refers all student and parent requests or grievances through proper channels. Is aware of all public/staff/departmental meetings thatrequire attendance.
D. Maintains discipline and works to increase morale and cooperation within the school sports program and school community.
E. To assist with the supervision of student/athletes before practice, during practice and after practice and/or games.
Administrative Duties:
a. Assists the head coach in preparation for scheduled sports events or practices and adheres to scheduled facility times. Coordinates program with maintenance and school employees.
b. Provides documentation to athletic director needed to fulfill state and system requirements concerning physical examinations, parental consent, and eligibility.
c. Provides proper safeguards for maintenance and protection of assigned equipment sites.
All head coaches and their staff are required to complete the coaches education test as provided by the VHSL. All current coaches must complete the VHSL component which is III. All coaches hired as of September 20110 must complete all three sections of the test.
QUALIFICATIONS
GED or high school diploma;
Valid Virginia Driver's License;
Successful coaching experience in assigned sport is preferred;
Must have substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport and at the same time must continue to examine new theories and procedures pertinent to the field.
Valid Virginia Teaching Licensepreferred;
