Job Purpose: The Assistant Warehouse Manager is responsible for managing daily operations of the warehouse on their designated shift, including scheduling warehouse worker hours, inbound and outbound loading, inventory control, maintenance of warehouse equipment, and warehouse housekeeping.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure the facility performs yard checks, including checking all trailers in dock doors and in yard for empties and loads.
- Ensure yard has no trailers parked in such a way as to hinder movement of other trailers.
- Ensure all paperwork from the previous day’s work is complete and distributed to proper departments.
- Oversee loading/unloading of all carriers.
- Ensure trailers are emptied and available for local drivers.
- Conduct periodic dock safety checks.
- Keep track of warehouse customer inventory by computer and complete physical inventory counts.
- Ensure timely processing of warehouse customer orders, bill preparation, and inventory control.
- Oversee the picking of orders from the warehouse and the staging or loading of the orders.
- Ensure proper scheduling of carriers to pick up warehouse customer orders as directed by the customers.
- Manage warehouse personnel, scheduling work hours, personnel issues, performance reviews, and all disciplinary actions.
- Ensure all training of fork-lift operators on the procedures for handling company freight and specific requirements for handling customer freight.
- Manage warehouse space and maximize usage of warehouse layout.
- Ensure the warehouse is kept clean and organized at all times, meeting all food safety requirements.
Required Skills:
- Warehouse management experience with a background in inventory control systems.
- Solid experience in Excel, data entry, and general computer skills.
- Experience managing a staff of 30 or more employees and multiple shifts.
- Ability to maintain a clean and orderly warehouse operation.
- Good communication skills.
- Leadership and management abilities.

- Flexibility in working overtime when needed, and supplying coverage to other shifts.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced warehouse.
Qualifications:
- Three (3) to five (5) years of management experience.
- Experience in warehousing management.
Education:
- College degree preferred or extensive background in transportation warehouse management.
