Job description

As an Assistant Warehouse Manager, you will be the backbone of our warehouse operations, consisting of supply chain, deliveries, fleet, and tooling/equipment management. You aren't just tracking tools and managing warehouse space; you are ensuring that a century old institution has the exact resources it needs to execute flawlessly in the field. You will bridge the gap between our storied heritage in the plumbing and mechanical piping trades and our future as a highly efficient, high-tech operation. This role is responsible for ensuring that every logistical touchpoint, from job site deliveries to tooling assignments, warehouse inventory, vehicle maintenance and procurement, is cohesive, professional, and powerful.

Why Work for Us?

For over 133 years, our history has been the foundation, not the finish line. We are currently investing in a multi-generational strategy, optimizing our world class operations and modernizing our brand to ensure our legacy remains as vibrant in the next century as it was in the last. At Savage and Son, we don’t just rest on our reputation; we build upon it.

Key Responsibilities
Tooling, Fleet & Equipment Management
  • Manage the full tool lifecycle, including sourcing, inventory, assignments, returns, repairs, replacements, audits, warranty claims, SOPs, rebates, and new tooling evaluations.
  • Maintain Milwaukee Tool inventory and One Key tracking while coordinating jobsite deliveries and emergency tool requests.
  • Maintain fleet service records, compliance documentation, registration status, utilization, preventative maintenance, repairs, smogs, vehicle transfers, and fuel card administration.
  • Manage vendor relationships with Milwaukee, GMC, Ford, repair shops, and other service providers; research fleet replacement and tracking software options.
Warehouse, Logistics & Distribution
  • Supervise daily warehouse operations, including receiving, stocking, organizing, material handling, loading, unloading, storage, and inventory accuracy.
  • Manage warehouse priorities during leadership absences and maintain continuity of purchasing, receiving, deliveries, and inventory operations.
  • Schedule deliveries and pickups; coordinate emergency material/tooling deliveries, equipment movement, vehicle transfers, and jobsite mobilization/demobilization logistics.
  • Support field leaders with procurement, logistics planning, project requirements, jobsite cleanup, and material recovery operations.
Purchasing, Supply Chain & Administration
  • Source materials, equipment, and specialty items; create/manage purchase orders, will-call orders, expedited purchases, and procurement support for major projects and shutdowns.
  • Research vendors, negotiate equipment options, evaluate capital purchases, and assist field leaders with procurement planning.
  • Develop warehouse/tooling workflows, improve Field Docs and Miter adoption, train employees, troubleshoot technology issues, and manage OneNote tracking systems.
  • Improve purchasing, receipting, reporting, recordkeeping, and process compliance across field, warehouse, and management teams.
Insurance, Claims & Compliance
  • Serve as primary point of contact for vehicle and equipment insurance claims.
  • Gather evidence, pricing, documentation, police reports, and expense tracking while coordinating with carriers, adjusters, repair facilities, and internal stakeholders.
  • Evaluate repair versus replacement options and track claim-related expenses and reimbursement activity.
  • Support tool safety, PPE procurement, toolbox talks, ladder inspection/labeling, fleet compliance, maintenance documentation, incident reporting, and investigation activities.
What You Bring To The Table
  • Logistics & Distribution Mastery: Proven ability to supervise high-volume daily warehouse operations, inventory accuracy, and material handling workflows.
  • Vendor & Claim Leadership: Strong capacity to manage relationships with major vendors (Milwaukee, GMC, Ford) and coordinate comprehensively with carriers, adjusters, and repair facilities for vehicle and equipment claims.
  • Technological Fluency: Exceptional capability to troubleshoot technology issues and drive employee adoption of software platforms like Milwaukee One-Key tracking, Field Docs, Miter, and OneNote.
  • Adaptive Problem Solving: You are comfortable moving between high-level conceptual planning—such as evaluating capital purchases and fleet replacements—and the tactical, boots-on-the-ground work required to coordinate emergency jobsite deliveries and fleet maintenance.
Core Competencies
  • Comprehensive Tool Lifecycle & Fleet Management
  • Strategic Purchasing & Supply Chain Procurement
  • Insurance Claims Processing & Expense Tracking
  • Warehouse Operations & Distribution Logistics
  • Technology Workflow Development & Training
Requirements & Disclaimers
  • BS degree in Supply Chain or Logistics Management preferred. High School Graduate or equivalent required.
  • 5+ years construction industry experience.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record required.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug.
  • Physical capacity to sit, stand, and lift 45 pounds (and up to 75 pounds or more with assistance) as needed to support warehouse and field operations.
