Assistant Vice President, Claims
Based in the US and reporting to the US-based Insurance Claims Coordinator, you will be responsible for Financial Lines Claims management. The role will be based remotely, Hamilton Re is our Bermuda insurer underwriting property, casualty and specialty insurance and reinsurance, on a global basis.
What you will do
- Financial Lines Claims management to achieve high standards of productivity, operational efficiency and alignment of organizational goals
- Management of Excess Casualty Claims as needed
- Provide high level of technical expertise and oversight to junior staff
- Examine new and existing claims, including the review of contractual wordings to prepare assessments of coverage
- Evaluate actual and potential liability exposures, and recommend accurate and timely reserves
- Identify exposures and claim trends which may affect the portfolios
- Provide feedback on claims and trends to underwriting and stakeholders
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date claim files and diary system
- Draft case summary reports in connection with potential significant reserve increases
- Prepare management reports and present at claims meetings
- Attend external client meetings, broker and networking events as appropriate
- Provide backup support to other areas as requested
- Participate in special projects as required
- Ensure compliance with internal corporate guidelines, processes and procedures
- Other duties as required by management
- Some travel as required

What you require for the role
- Minimum of 10 years’ Financial Lines claims experience (including D&O, E&O and EPL) in progressively senior roles
- Willingness to manage Excess Casualty Claims
- Law degree and member of the Bar in a US jurisdiction
- Proven ability to provide coverage, liability and damages analysis for complex Financial Lines claims
- Excess Casualty claims experience is advantageous
- Solid knowledge of contract terms and structures
- Strong negotiation skills
- Significant complex problem-solving experience

- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
- Must demonstrate a high level of initiative and leadership skills
- Excellent time management, problem solving, and organizational skills are required
- Insurance designation such as RPLU or CPCU is advantageous
- Knowledge of SICS, Image Right or a similar system is advantageous
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, with advanced Excel skills
