Job summary

The United States Department of Justice's District of New Hampshire seeks highly motivated attorneys for Assistant United States Attorney positions in the Civil Division with a focus on immigration enforcement. This term appointment may be extended or made permanent without further advertising.

As an AUSA, you will handle all phases of civil litigation, from case assessment to appeals, and work within a collaborative team of AUSAs, support staff, and agencies to enforce federal laws and uphold

Qualifications

• Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree, be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction), and have at least 1 year post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience.
• United States citizenship is required.
• Three years of post-J.D. experience is preferred.
• Experience, including volunteer work, translates to paid employment and credit is given for qualifying experience.

Responsibilities

• Represent the United States in civil litigation and affirmative enforcement matters in the Civil Division.
• Manage all phases of litigation: case assessment, discovery, motion practice, hearings, trials, and appeals.
• Work with AUSAs, support staff, and agencies to enforce federal laws and uphold justice.
• Engage in immigration enforcement focus within the Civil Division and contribute to mission goals.

Job Description

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of New Hampshire is seeking highly motivated attorneys interested in a rewarding and challenging career in public service as Assistant United States Attorneys. Qualified applicants will join the more than 100,000 dedicated public servants and professionals of the Department of Justice committed to the Department's mission of enforcing federal laws that protect life, liberty, and property, defending the interests of the United States, and ensuring the impartial administration of justice for all Americans.

The Civil Division represents the United States, its agencies, and federal employees in a broad range of civil litigation and affirmative enforcement matters. Civil Division attorneys manage all phases of litigation, including case assessment, discovery, motion practice, alternative dispute resolution, hearings, trials, and appeals.

The U.S. Attorney's Office is currently seeking a term appointment to the Civil Division with a specialty and particular focus in immigration enforcement. This temporary appointment is through September 30, 2029, and may be extended or made permanent without further competition.

Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Residency Requirements: Assistant United States Attorneys generally must reside in the district to which he or she is appointed or within 25 miles thereof. See 28 U.S.C. 545 for district-specific information.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree, be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction), and have at least 1* year post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience.

United States citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess superior legal research and writing skills; quick analytical ability to accurately and precisely articulate critical case-related issues; high-volume briefing and courtroom experience; outstanding organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills; the ability to work in a supportive and professional team environment with other AUSAs, support staff, and agencies; and a demonstrated commitment to professionalism, ethics, civility, and public service.

Relevant favorable experience includes oral advocacy skills and federal court practice.

Past exposure to or study of immigration law is strongly desired.

Three years of post-J.D. experience is preferred.

You must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Salary Information

Salary Information: Assistant United States Attorney's pay is administratively determined based, in part, on the number of years of professional attorney experience. The range of basic pay is $86,923 to $197,100 which includes 32.58% locality pay.
