Job Description

This posting is seeking a small number of experienced candidates with significant civil litigation experience, or with experience handling complex civil or criminal matters that required advanced case-management skills and demonstrate the ability to supervise complicated criminal investigations and prosecutions. While no minimum years of experience are specifically required, the experience level sought in this post reflects the knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through a minimum of 7-years post-J.D. experience. Criminal Division.

The Criminal Division investigates and prosecutes violations of federal criminal law throughout New Hampshire, working to protect communities, uphold public safety, and enforce federal statutes. A criminal AUSA will be assigned cases relating to narcotics trafficking, firearms, violent crimes, child exploitation, human trafficking, organized crime, terrorism, illegal immigration, and white-collar crime, including wire, mail, healthcare, and mortgage fraud.

Civil Division.

The Civil Division represents the United States, its agencies, and federal employees in a broad range of civil litigation and affirmative enforcement matters. The Division primarily defends the government in federal court actions involving immigration, tort claims, employment discrimination, constitutional and civil rights claims, real property disputes, medical malpractice, commercial litigation, challenges to agency actions, and other civil lawsuits. Civil Division attorneys manage all phases of litigation, including case assessment, discovery, motion practice, alternative dispute resolution, hearings, trials, and appeals. In addition to defensive litigation, the Division handles affirmative enforcement matters such as actions under the False Claims Act, civil rights enforcement cases, healthcare fraud, procurement fraud, financial fraud, pharmaceutical diversion and collection, foreclosure, and bankruptcy proceedings.

Salary, title, and responsibility are commensurate with experience.

Residency Requirements:

Assistant United States Attorneys generally must reside in the district to which he or she is appointed or within 25 miles thereof. See 28 U.S.C. 545 for district-specific information.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree, be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction), and have at least 1* year post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience.

United States citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess superior legal research and writing skills; quick analytical ability to accurately and precisely articulate critical case-related issues; high-volume briefing and courtroom experience; outstanding organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills; the ability to work in a supportive and professional team environment with other AUSAs, support staff, and investigative agencies; and a demonstrated commitment to professionalism, ethics, civility, and public service. Relevant favorable experience includes oral advocacy skills and federal court practice.

Seven years of post-J.D. experience is strongly preferred.

Salary Information

Assistant United States Attorney's pay is administratively determined, in part, based on the number of years of professional attorney experience. The range of basic pay is $86,923.00 to $197,100 which includes 32.58% locality pay.
