Job summary

Iowa Western Community College is seeking an Assistant Coach to support all phases of a nationally competitive NJCAA Division I Track and Field program. You will help recruit, manage travel, ensure rules compliance, and assist with fundraising, advising, marketing, and public relations.

Responsibilities include coordinating visits, organizing the program, fundraising activities, and advising student-athletes on admissions, financial aid, and academics.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Exceptional coaching knowledge in Track and Field.
  • Strong organizational and communication abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and outreach.
  • Ability to pass background check and maintain clean driving record.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit prospective student athletes and establish and maintain appropriate communication.
  • Coordinate on-campus visits and demonstrate success with qualified prospects.
  • Provide effective organization of program and time, and support coaching duties.
  • Assist with booster advertising and fundraising activities for scholarships.
  • Advise admissions, financial aid, and monitor academic progress.
  • Establish media relations, promote team events, and manage sports promotions.
  • Ensure compliance with NJCAA, ICCAC, and college policies; assist with travel and meals.
  • Coordinate travel logistics, budget management, and departmental meetings.

Job description

The Assistant Coach will assist with of all phases of a nationally competitive NJCAA Division I Track and Field program. Including, but not limited to coaching, recruiting, travel management, rules and eligibility compliance, administrative duties, departmental fundraising, event management, academic advising, marketing, promotions, and public relations.

Recruitment
  • Identify prospective student athletes and establish and maintain appropriate communication.
  • Conduct effective on-campus visits.
  • Demonstrate success with respect to qualified prospective student athletes.
Organization
  • Provide effective organization of program and management of time.
  • Perform a variety of coaching functions at all practices.
  • Understand and conference, regional and NJCAA requirements regarding meetings, statistics, rosters, schedules and awards.
Fundraising
  • Assist with active selling of booster advertising and memberships for scholarship fundraising.
  • Participates in departmental and individual sport fundraising activities/events for producing scholarship and/or team funding.
Advising
  • Assist with the admissions and financial aid advising process of team members.
  • Assist with the monitoring of academic progress and eligibility team members, providing intervention strategies and resources when necessary.
  • Assist with the orientation of student-athletes regarding expectations, college polices, code of ethics, sportsmanship code and local resources.
  • Assist with enforcement of college policies.
Public Relations
  • Establishes appropriate rapport with media including reporting scores and team statistics in a timely manner.
  • Represents the department and Iowa Western to service clubs, media and alumni groups.
  • Works with entire athletic department on departmental projects and fundraising.
  • Assist with providing information needed to produce respective sports guide.
  • Works collaboratively with the college's radio and TV broadcasting programs.
  • Works collaboratively with the Reiver's Sports Media Coordinator in regard to sports promotions, events and social media.
  • Works collaboratively with the SID to update and maintain their respective sports webpage.
Administrative Responsibilities
  • Complies with the colleges, ICCAC's and NJCAA's rules and regulations.
  • Compiles and submits organized and accurate paperwork for eligibility.
  • Assist with effectively managing scholarship offerings and budget.
  • Assists with team travel, accommodations, and meals.
  • Attends scheduled departmental meetings.
  • Assist with enforcement of medical and insurance procedures.
  • Participates in clinics for professional improvement.
  • Works with and is supportive of other coaches and programs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Head Coach and Athletic Director.

Qualifications
  • Exceptional knowledge of respective sport
  • Possess strong organizational and computer skills.
  • Possess ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to appropriately exercise independent initiative and judgment.
  • Sensitivity to and awareness of confidential materials
  • Must hold valid driver's license and have a good driving record to qualify to drive college vehicles and obtain CDL.
  • Ability to pass a background check
