Durham Community School seeks an Assistant to the Athletic Director for the 2026-2027 year in Maine. The role supports the implementation and supervision of the middle school athletic program and handles preparations for interscholastic activities.

You will supervise home games, manage equipment, assist with eligibility and medical paperwork, and coordinate communication with coaching staff, students, and parents; you’ll participate in budgeting and policy development while modeling

Qualifications

  • Must hold valid CHRC Certification from the ME Dept. of Education.
  • Completed courses in the organization and administration of athletic programs.
  • Preferred five years of successful coaching experience.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise home games: facility prep, timers, spectators, officials, vouchers and visiting teams.
  • Supervise inventory: issuing, returning, storage and care of equipment.
  • Assist with athlete medical paperwork and eligibility checks.
  • Disseminate information to coaching staff, faculty, athletes and parents.
  • Ensure proper chain of command and report issues through the AD/Principal.
  • Attend to disciplinary issues and communicate outcomes to AD/Principal.
  • Assist in setting academic eligibility requirements for participation.
  • Organize and attend Sports Awards Nights and indoor practice scheduling.
  • Support budget process for uniforms and equipment.
  • Help develop rules governing conduct of student athletes.

PURPOSE:

To assist the Athletic Director with the implementation and supervision of the middle school athletic program. Attending to the basic preparations for the smooth operation of the existing interscholastic athletic program.

Responsibilities
  • Assume general responsibility for the proper supervision of home games (facility preparation, timers, spectators, greet game officials and complete vouchers for payment, greet visiting teams' and attend to their needs);
  • Supervise inventory: the issuing, return, storage, and care of all athletic equipment;
  • Assist with the communication and supervision of athlete's physical examination requirements and paperwork - will work closely with the District's Athletic Department's Administrative Assistant and school nurse;
  • Help disseminate appropriate information to coaching staff, faculty, participants, and parents;
  • Understand proper administrative chain of command and ensure all requests and grievances go through proper channels;
  • Keep District's Athletic Administrator informed regarding all issues that affect student athletes, game contests, and/or athletic programs,
  • Attends to minor student athlete disciplinary issues which do not warrant Athletic Administrator's or Building Principal or Assistant Principal's involvement - report out to AD/Principal;
  • Assist in establishing academic requirements of eligibility for participation in each sport and verify each athlete's eligibility:
  • Check field conditions during inclement weather and informs District's Athletic Administrator;
  • Organize, supervise, and attend all Sports Awards' Nights
  • Organize indoor practice schedule (fall/spring) for when weather/field conditions cancel outside practices;
  • Aid in the budget process - prioritize needs for uniforms and equipment;
  • Assist in the development and place into operation appropriate rules and regulations governing the conduct of student athletes and athletic activities;
  • Create a culture in which each person is treated with respect and the opportunity to improve skill development;
  • Models professionalism, good sportsmanship, and serves as a positive role model for students;
  • Assist with supervision & evaluation of middle school coaching staff,
  • Carries out other duties as may be assigned by the District's Athletic Administrator or Building Principal.

Pay for this position is based on the CEA Collective Bargaining Agreement Schedule B Athletic Stipends at $6,143.00 per contract year.

Requirements

Must hold valid CHRC Certification from the ME Dept. of Education.
