Smith High School is seeking an Assistant-Title I paraprofessional to support at‑risk students under the supervision of a certified teacher. This non-exempt role assists with tutoring, classroom management, and instructional tasks within the school setting.

Qualifications

Primary Purpose

Assist in the preparation and management of classroom activities and administrative requirements for at-risk students under the supervision of a certified teacher.

Qualifications
Education/Certification
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Associate's Degree or minimum of 48 college credits
  • SBEC Paraprofessional Certification or eligible for certification
Special Knowledge/Skills
  • Ability to work well with children
  • Knowledge of general office equipment
Preferred Experience
  • Previous successful experience working with children
Major Responsibilities and Duties
  • Providing one-on-one tutoring if such tutoring is scheduled at a time when a student would not otherwise receive instruction from a teacher;
  • Assisting with classroom management, such as by organizing instructional materials;
  • Providing instructional assistance in a computer laboratory;
  • Conducting parental involvement activities;
  • Providing instructional support in a library or media center;
  • Acting as a translator;
  • Providing instructional support services under the direct supervision of an appropriately certified teacher.
  • Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and state and local board policy.
Working Conditions

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment

Posture: Moderate standing; occasional kneeling, squatting, bending, and stooping

Motion: Moderate walking

Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); Occasional heavy lifting (over 45 pounds).

Environment: Work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); exposure to noise

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
