Responsibilities

• Design and implement a weight room program including conditioning, resistance, mobility and recovery for athlete development.
• Attend all practices and meets; may drive team van; coach during afternoons and Saturdays during championship seasons.
• Promote a positive attitude, academic achievement and personal growth in collaboration with the Head Coach.

Job description

Position Title: Throwing Coach – Track and Field

Notre Dame de Sion School in Kansas City, MO, is seeking an experienced throwing coach for Track and Field, for the 2026-27 school year. This position will be responsible for the throwers' program and players.

Reports to: HS Athletic Director/Head Track and Field Coach

Position objective: To assist with and lead the current High School Throwing Program and team.

Qualifying Characteristics

• Experience developing HS Track and Field throwers to include discus, javelin, and shot put.
• Evidenced ability to maintain and consistently exemplify the highest standards of educational professionalism, leadership, sportsmanship, and respect.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively work with students, staff, administration, and parents with proven organizational and motivational skills and possess the ability to maintain coaching responsibilities on and off campus.
• Flexibility in work schedule, as needed, as involvement in student life is an expectation of all coaches, requires 1-2 overnight trips to away meets.
• Preferred four‑year degree; Minimum two (2) years of experience coaching Track and Field Throws and teaching skills and strategies that apply to the skill level of the players.
• Knowledge of appropriate safety measures to ensure the well‑being of players and experience working with an Athletic Trainer, ensuring student‑athletes receive proper medical and physical training services.
• CPR/First Aid certification and must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position.

Position Responsibilities

• Assist in coordinating practice sessions and training programs for the throwers with an emphasis on athletic growth and development, fundamentals, as well as safety.
• Experience in the weight room; design and implement a program to include conditioning, resistance training, mobility, and recovery to help athletes develop to the best of their ability.
• Attend all practices and meets; ability to drive team van as needed; availability to coach afternoon practices and attend afternoon meets with championship meets on Saturdays in May.
• In collaboration with Head Coach, promote a positive attitude, academic achievement, and personal growth.
