Job summary

SKIMS is seeking an Assistant Technical Designer in Los Angeles HQ to support the Technical Design team across the product development and production lifecycle. You will assist with technical packages, fit sessions, and communication with vendors and factories to ensure accuracy and quality.

This entry-level role offers exposure to global brand operations, PLM systems, and cross-functional collaboration with Design, Product Development, and Production teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design, Technical Design, Product Development, Apparel Production, or a related field preferred.
  • 1–2 years of technical design, product development, or apparel production experience; relevant internships will also be considered
  • Foundational understanding of garment construction, patternmaking, fit, measurements, and grading
  • Experience measuring garments and working with technical specifications
  • Familiarity with technical packages and product development processes
  • Experience with PLM systems is preferred
  • Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Microsoft Excel
  • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively across multiple teams and functions.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Technical Design team throughout the development and production lifecycle, from initial prototype through final production approval.
  • Assist in creating, updating, and maintaining technical packages, including measurements, construction details, specifications, and fit comments.
  • Review samples against technical specifications and identify inconsistencies in measurements, construction, and workmanship.
  • Assist with measuring garments accurately and maintaining measurement specifications throughout development.
  • Support the creation and maintenance of grade rules and size specifications.
  • Help ensure product consistency across styles, categories, and size ranges.
  • Prepare garments, technical documentation, and measurement information for fit sessions.
  • Attend fittings and accurately capture fit comments, construction changes, and required sample revisions.
  • Assist Technical Designers in communicating clear and actionable fit comments to vendors and factories.
  • Maintain organized fit records and track changes across sample iterations.
  • Help ensure fit approvals and deadlines remain aligned with the product development calendar.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date technical information within PLM and other internal systems.
  • Support updates to tech packs, construction details, sketches, measurements, and fit comments.
  • Assist with reviewing factory submissions and ensuring requested changes have been accurately executed.
  • Maintain organized records of samples, approvals, fit history, and technical documentation.
  • Partner closely with Design, Product Development, Production, Merchandising, and Technical Design teams to support the successful execution of product.
  • Communicate with domestic and international vendors regarding samples, measurements, fit comments, and technical updates.
  • Help identify potential fit or construction issues early and escalation appropriately.
  • Support multiple styles and development timelines while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.

SKIMS is looking for a highly organized, detail-oriented Assistant Technical Designer to support the Technical Design team throughout the product development and production process.

This role will assist in ensuring that products meet SKIMS’ standards for fit, construction, quality, consistency, and performance. Working closely with Technical Design, Design, Product Development, Production, and external vendors, the Assistant Technical Designer will support fittings, technical documentation, sample tracking, and day-to-day communication throughout the product lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities
