Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Philosophy by time of appointment; teaching experience and demonstration of teaching effectiveness.
• Non-tenure track, renewable with opportunities for promotion.
• Experience in Medical Ethics or applied ethics desirable.

Responsibilities

• Teach Medical Ethics at least once a year, and possibly every semester.

The Department of Philosophy at Miami University invitesapplications for an Assistant Teaching Professor position inMedical Ethics with competence in other areas of applied ethicsand/or environmental philosophy, starting Fall 2027. We haveteaching needs in applied ethics, environmental philosophy, andwriting philosophy. The College of Arts and Science at MiamiUniversity has a growing emphasis on preparing students for careersin healthcare, including nursing, physician assistant, and pre-medprograms.

The successful candidate will teach Medical Ethics at least once ayear, and possibly every semester. The remaining teaching loadwould include introductory courses and other Applied Ethicscourses. Prior coursework in biology and/or the health sciences isdesirable but not required. Service to the department anduniversity is expected. The successful candidate will also workclosely with the Mallory-Wilson Center for HealthcareEducation.

Assistant Teaching Professor positions at Miami University arenon-tenure track positions, but are renewable and haveopportunities for promotion (Associate and Full ranks) that includelong-term contracts. We seek a candidate who will flourish in apluralist department.

Minimum Qualifications
