Job summary

Miami University in Oxford, Ohio invites applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor to teach courses within the Journalism major and minor. This full-time, on-campus appointment is based in the Department of Media, Journalism & Film.

The successful candidate will contribute to the Journalism curriculum, with potential responsibility for JRN 201: News Writing & Reporting I and JRN 102: News Writing Fundamentals, and other undergraduate courses according to expertise. A Ph.D.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in relevant field at time of appointment.
• Experience teaching undergraduate journalism courses.
• Experience working in a professional newsroom.
• Additional expertise in investigative reporting, multimedia journalism, AI in journalism, or photojournalism.

Responsibilities

• Teach courses within Journalism major and minor.
• Lead or contribute to core courses such as JRN 201 and JRN 102 as appropriate.
• Develop and deliver undergraduate journalism curriculum.
• Collaborate on program development within the Department of Media, Journalism & Film.

Job Description

Assistant Teaching Professor to teach courses within Journalism major and minor. The Department of Media, Journalism & Film prepares students to work in an interdisciplinary media environment, offering degrees in Journalism, Media & Communication, and Strategic Communication. This hire will have the chance to be a leader in our Journalismcurriculum, with possible responsibility for teaching our core reporting class, JRN 201: News Writing & Reporting I; the introductory news writing class JRN 102: News Writing Fundamentals; and additional undergraduate classes in journalism special topics, according to the candidate’s expertise.

Minimum Qualifications

Required: Ph.D. in relevant field at time of appointment; previous experience teaching undergraduate journalism courses; previous experience working in a professional newsroom.

Consideration will be given to candidates who will expand the expertise of the Journalism programby bringing a professional skill set that may include investigative reporting; multimedia news production; AI andjournalism; photojournalism; or other specialized sub-field.
