Job summary

Milton Academy seeks Assistant Teachers for The Saturday Course, an enrichment program for public school children in Grades 4-8 with strong academic skills. Independently motivated students can learn compelling material in a fun and exciting environment.

Hours are Saturdays from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. during program dates, with five sessions per academic year. Candidates need not commit to all sessions.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in high school or beyond.
  • Must be at least 18 years old; previous experience working with children in a leadership role.
  • Minimum course work or proven experience in a specific course of study.
  • Preferred: Experience teaching students in Grades 4-8.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated computer expertise: Google Workspace, Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Cloud.

Responsibilities

  • Work effectively in a diverse and inclusive community.
  • Collaborate with teachers, staff, administrators, and parents for the benefit of students and the community.
  • Direct supervision of children during the Saturday Course.
  • Assist lead teachers and participate in course planning and delivery.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professional standards.

Hours: Part time 40 hours or 8 hours a day from approximately 7am - 3pm

FLSA: Exempt

Classification: Faculty (Academic Year)

Salary range: $20.00 - $26.00 /hr contingent on experience

Summary of Position:

Milton Academy seeks Assistant Teachers for The Saturday Course, an enrichment program for public school children in Grades 4-8 with strong academic skills. Independently motivated students can learn compelling material in a fun and exciting environment. Founded in 1978, The Saturday Course has been an integral part of the Academy’s commitment to public/private partnerships. Ideal candidates will have experience in teaching subjects in which they are passionate.

Please review our Sample Course List. as an example of the types of classes we have offered. Some specific subject areas that we are seeking at this time include but are not limited to: animals (zoology), archaeology, astronomy, aviation, creative writing, journalism, sports science, speech and debate. We encourage applicants to provide a cover letter with details about the course(s) you’d be interested in assisting in with a lead teacher.

Hours for this position are 7:00 a.m.- 3:00 p.m. on Saturdays during program dates. There are 5 sessions during the academic year – each session consists of five Saturdays. Candidates are not required to commit to teaching all sessions.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

A successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability to work in a diverse and inclusive community. Supervision to be received: Supervised by the Saturday Course Director and lead teachers of thecourses

Supervision to be exercised: Direct supervision of children

Education/Certification/Licensure: Enrolled in high school or beyond

Required: Must be at least 18 years old. Previous experience working with children in a leadershiprole

Required: Minimum of course work/proven experience in a specific course of study

Preferred: Experience teaching students in Grades 4-8

Required:

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Demonstrated computer expertise, including proficiency in Google Workspace, Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Cloud.

Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external constituencies.

Understanding of confidentiality and related issues.

Receptive to supervision and professional development.

Desire to be a part of a dynamic educational community.

Physical Abilities

Required:

Must be able to move around the Milton Academy campus without restriction.

Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds.
