Job summary

Kentwood Community Church is seeking an Explore & Grow Assistant Teacher to work with the Lead Teacher in supervising and guiding children in a structured classroom setting. The role covers classroom activities, material preparation, and occasional Lead Teacher duties when needed.

Responsibilities include daily interactions with children, transitions, meals, safety, and collaboration with staff and families.

Qualifications

• Must have a love and willingness to serve children and their families.
• Minimum educational requirement per the Michigan Department of Childcare Licensing.
• Previous child care experience.
• CPR training and Blood Borne Training annually.
• State required training and professional development.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and discipline the children in the classroom.
• Assist with getting the children to and from the room during transitions.
• Interact with children to guide and participate in play across developmental areas.
• Assist with meals/snacks and cleanup.
• Responsible for playground and gym supervision.
• Keep room neat, clean and safe.
• Participate in specials (Music, Cultural, Bible, Spanish) with the children.
• Advise Director when supplies need replacing or equipment needs repair.
• Work cooperatively with staff and parents.
• Communicate with families daily on the electronic app.
• Greet and engage with parents, children and guests.
• Attend staff meetings, parent functions, and outreach events as requested.
• Meet with the Director for evaluation and goal setting.
• Attend required annual trainings mandated by licensing rules and CPR/First Aid training.
• Perform all other duties as assigned by the Director.
