Job summary

CAIRO Academy provides a safe, play-based preschool program for diverse communities in Portland. The Assistant Teacher supports daily classroom operations, curriculums, and family engagement, while collaborating with a teaching team to foster inclusive learning.

The role includes potential lead-teacher duties, ensuring compliance with DELC, PFA, PSP, and OSHA standards, and requires English proficiency and background registry enrollment. CAIRO offers full-time hours at multiple sites.

Qualifications

• Minimum age 18.
• Minimum ORO Step 6.
• At least 1 year of verified experience with children ages 3–5 in a certified childcare center.
• Experience supporting children with varying needs in inclusive settings.
• Must meet one of the following: 750 hours of teaching in a center, 1,500 hours in family care, ORO Step 6 or 9 CKCs, or an associated degree or CDA.

Responsibilities

• Support daily classroom operations and curriculum delivery.
• Maintain strong communication with children and adults.
• Assist Lead Teacher with family engagement.
• Step in to assume Lead Teacher responsibilities as needed.
• Administer medication or undergo RN training if required.
