What You’ll Do
Essential Functions
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding staff, children, families, board members, and center operations.
  • Complete an annual self‑assessment using the ITERS/ECERS, review it with the team leader and coaches, and set achievable goals for the year.
  • Know the whereabouts and number of children in care, ensuring all children are within sight and sound supervision at all times.
  • Verify identity of adult pick‑ups by checking photo ID and confirming they are on the approved escort list.
  • Perform name‑to‑face attendance checks multiple times daily as per policy.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean, tidy classroom that promotes age‑appropriate physical, emotional, and educational comfort.
  • In the senior teacher’s absence, follow the lesson plans provided.
  • Limit the use of screen time as directed.
  • Engage children in age‑appropriate play.
  • Provide positive guidance, direction, and encouragement using principles of Positive Discipline.
  • Monitor child development, document concerns, and report them to the senior teacher or team lead.
  • Greet children and families at arrival and departure; promote trusting relationships.
  • Pass on all pertinent information regarding a child’s day, including important paperwork, to responsible staff when absent at pick‑up.
  • Complete incident reports for illnesses, injuries, or incidents and notify the team leader; share information with families when applicable.
  • Keep the team leader and senior teacher informed of any problems concerning children, staff, or families.
  • Notify team leader and senior teacher of urgent matters, including serious illness, injury, staff misconduct, or licensing violations.
  • Assist in maintaining consistent, Reggio‑inspired classroom environments.
  • Utilize center materials and supplies responsibly, safely, and engagingly; return them to proper storage after use.
  • Seek assistance from the team leader or curriculum coach when needed.
  • Request supplies at least one week in advance.
  • Serve meals and snacks in compliance with CACFP guidelines and Kentucky childcare regulations; clean up after meals.
  • Acknowledge all children’s allergies and medical alerts; communicate changes.
  • Respond to all electronic communications from CDC leadership promptly.
  • Assist in implementing at least one CDC family event per school year.
  • Work a four‑hour shift at the SJCH Annual Picnic and attend a family event.
  • Obtain all required staff development and training.
  • Attend CDC department meetings and contribute to decision‑making.
  • Safely evacuate children during emergencies and perform name‑to‑face counts before, during, and after drills.
  • Be flexible in daily classroom placement and accommodate staffing needs as directed.
  • Report urgent building maintenance or custodial issues to the team leader.
  • Keep classroom and shared spaces clean, safe, and clutter‑free.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma (or equivalent) required.
  • Experience working with children ages 0‑5 preferred but not required.
Nice To Haves
  • Shift preferences: (1) Monday‑Friday 8.5‑hour shifts between 7 AM and 6 PM, or (2) 7:30 AM‑6 PM up to 4 days per week.
  • $500.00 Retention Bonus ($250 after 90 days and $250 after 6 months of satisfactory service).
