About This Role

The Relief Teacher (Floater) supports the daily operations of the childcare center by providing flexible classroom coverage and assistance as needed. This position plays a critical role in maintaining safe supervision, proper staff-to-child ratios, and smooth transitions throughout the day. The Relief Teacher works with children of various ages, assists with classroom routines, and ensures a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment.

This position plays a critical role in maintaining safe supervision, proper staff-to-child ratios, and smooth transitions throughout the day. The Relief Teacher works with children of various ages, assists with classroom routines, and ensures a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment.

What You'll Do
Classroom Support & Coverage
  • Provide supervision and care for children in assigned classrooms as needed
  • Maintain proper teacher-child ratios at all times in accordance with state licensing regulations
  • Step into classrooms during staff breaks, meetings, absences, or transitions
  • Assist teachers with daily routines, including arrival, meals, rest time, diapering/toileting, and dismissal
  • Support continuity of care when children are temporarily transitioned between classrooms
Child Supervision & Safety
  • Ensure the safety, well-being, and active supervision of all children at all times
  • Follow all health, safety, and sanitation procedures
  • Monitor classrooms, playgrounds, hallways, and common areas
  • Report incidents, injuries, or concerns to the Director or Administrator immediately
  • Follow emergency procedures and center policies
Behavior Guidance & Engagement
  • Use positive guidance strategies and redirection techniques with children
  • Model appropriate behavior and language
  • Support teachers in maintaining a calm, structured learning environment
  • Assist with managing challenging behaviors in a safe and developmentally appropriate manner
Classroom Assistance
  • Help prepare and clean up classroom materials and activities
  • Assist with classroom organization and sanitation
  • Support implementation of daily schedules and routines
  • Read to children, lead small group activities, or supervise centers as directed
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment
Flexibility & Team Support
  • Work in multiple classrooms with children of different ages (infants through preschool or school-age)
  • Adapt quickly to changing schedules and staffing needs
  • Communicate effectively with teachers, administrators, and families
  • Demonstrate teamwork and a willingness to assist wherever needed
Compliance & Professional Responsibilities
  • Follow all state licensing regulations and center policies
  • Maintain confidentiality of children, families, and staff
  • Participate in required trainings and professional development
  • Arrive on time and maintain consistent attendance
  • Maintain a positive, professional attitude
Requirements

To succeed in this position you will need:

  • High school diploma or Associates Degree
  • At least six months experience working in DSS certified childcare facility
  • CPR/first aid certificate or be able to obtain this
  • ECD 101 preferable
  • Be familiar with Creative Curriculum or willing to learn how to use
  • A positive, friendly attitude for parents and children
  • High-level verbal and written communication skills
  • Initiative and capacity to work with minimal supervision
  • Ensure the daily care of every child by following all licensing guidelines and implementing all company standards
  • Help to maintain a fun and interactive classroom that is clean and organized
  • Coursework in early childhood education or child development is a plus
  • At least three references
  • The ability to meet state and/or accreditation requirements for education and experience
  • Be organized and have the ability to plan lessons that are educational, hands on and interesting
  • Provide a learning environment that is safe, comfortable and healthy, in order to enhance children's growth and development
  • Be Flexible and Proactive
  • Be Able to work the part time hours 6:30 am-12:00 pm or 7:00 am-12:00 pm with occasional overtime
