The Child Development Center Assistant Teacher supports a safe learning environment for children to learn school readiness skills and supports families within the Early Childhood Education Assistance (ECEAP) Program in partnership with the ECEAP lead teacher. This position also is familiar with and supports the quality of care offered as outlined by the National Association of Young Children (NAEYC), Early Achievers, and Department of Children, Youth and Family (DCYF).

This has been designated as a bargaining unit position represented by Clover Park Federation of Classified Employees Local 4789.

Duty:

Follow and implement daily routine care based on Early Achievers, ECEAP and NAEYC Standards.

Tasks include:
  • Implement developmentally appropriate practices to support children's social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and individualized needs.
  • Practice ongoing health and safety procedures for indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Implement assigned and approved curriculum and teaching strategies, including preparing documents online and conducting parent conferences in the absence of the Lead Teachers.
  • Partner with the Lead Teacher to maintain, rearrange, and assess the classroom environment based on ITERS/ECERS, ECEAP, and NAEYC standards.
Duty:

Communicate with a diverse population of adults and children, documenting and filing accordingly.

Tasks include:
  • Build relationships through individualized communication with families via phone, email, and in person.
  • Provide early learning services in remote environments using platforms such as Teaching Strategies Gold, CANVAS, Zoom, or MS Teams.
  • Address concerns/issues of children in partnership with families, Lead Teacher, ECEAP Family Support, and Center Director.
  • Implement positive interactions and guidance techniques based on classroom environment, family culture, and circumstances.
  • Track, document, and file documents weekly or as needed.
  • Use college-provided communication tools to maintain confidentiality.
  • Collaborate with the center team to foster a positive work environment.
Duty:

Provide technical support for Early Childhood Education students, work-study participants, and volunteers.

Tasks include:
  • Model appropriate language and interactions; intervene when necessary.
  • Coach and mentor students according to center policies and industry standards.
  • Collaborate with ECE Coordinators, Program Manager, and Center Director regarding student learning, behavior, and progress.
Duty:

Engage in professional development and college support activities.

Tasks include:
  • Attend staff meetings, trainings, and workshops to meet licensing, Early Achievers, ECEAP, and NAEYC standards.
  • Participate in weekly team meetings and curriculum planning.
  • Maintain required certifications for licensing.
  • Participate in college meetings and trainings.
  • Maintain all required certifications and trainings for CPTC, ECEAP, and DCYF.
Other duties:
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Program Manager or Center Director.
  • Complete clerical duties such as filing, printing, scanning, and copying.
Minimum qualifications:
  • High School Diploma
  • CDA Credentials or Washington State Early Childhood Education (ECE) Initial or Short Certificate
  • At least one year of experience working in a licensed child care center
  • AA Degree in Early Childhood Education
  • Knowledge of Early Achievers, ECEAP, and NAEYC Standards
