Description
This position supports our teachers by reinforcing lesson plans, supervising students, assisting with preparation and maintaining classroom tidiness. The Assistant Teacher will create a safe and nurturing environment for learning by demonstrating patience, understanding and warmth and by creating meaningful relationships with children, parents and colleagues.
- Assist in the overall effective management and coordination of the readiness day-to-day educational program.
- Support the activities of program planning, implementation, and ongoing need assessments.
- Assist in the development of the curriculum, instruction and technology for students ages 3 to 5.
- Support the development of communication between the school and parents and maintain professionalism and confidentiality at all times.
- Plan, arrange and maintain a safe, clean and healthy environment that is conducive to quality care for teaching and learning.
- Observe, document, assess and report the progress of children in meeting the performance standards of the Connecticut Preschool Curriculum Framework and the Connecticut Common Core of State Standards.
- Keep accurate documentation of behavior, development, progress, health, illness, injuries or evidence of child abuse or neglect and make related reports within 12 hours or sooner to Director, DCF, Head Teacher and Public Health Department (PHD).
- Adherence to a designated work schedule and classroom assignments (punctuality, preparedness, and being on the job on a day-to-day basis).
- Preparation of detailed lesson plans a week in advance.
- Participation in professional development and staff meetings.
- Other related duties as requested by supervisor.
This is a full-time role, Monday through Friday, 8:30am - 5:30pm

Requirements
- Child Care Associate’s Degree or 12 ECE credits required (or ability to enroll in school to obtain required credits)
- Childcare experience a plus
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
- Demonstrated ability to work in a diverse community
- Positive attitude
- Ability to acquire approval and certification from DCF and CT-Chart-A-Course.
- Provide TB test results within 15 days of job offer.
- College transcript(s), references (3) and evaluations must be submitted during interview process
- Ability to organize information and data
- Ability to create and write reports that are clear and accurate
- Experience using MS Word and Excel
