Job summary

Malcolm X College in Chicago is seeking an Assistant Teacher-CDC (2nd) to support the Child Development Center's developmentally appropriate curriculum for preschool children. Under supervision of the Teacher, you will assist with classroom activities, supervise children, and help implement activities aligned with program goals.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma with college coursework in child development, at least one year of experience with young children, and is pursuing Gateways

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent plus 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours of credit from an accredited college or university, with 9 semester hours or 12 quarter hours in courses related to Child Development, Early Childhood Education, or a related field from birth to age six.
• Minimum of one year of work experience with young children birth to 5 years.
• Illinois Gateways to Opportunity registration and pursuing Level 4 credential in Infant/Toddler or Early Childhood Education.
• Must have and maintain a warm, supportive attitude towards children.
• Able to communicate verbally and in writing with children, parents, and staff; document growth and learning.

• Provides a safe, healthy environment focusing on classroom health, hygiene, nutrition, and safety.
• Assists in developing and implementing an environment and curriculum for developmentally appropriate activities across language, literacy, cognition, social-emotional well-being, and physical health.
• Ensures children’s safety through supervision and proper handling of materials.
• Works with staff to foster a nurturing, culturally sensitive environment encouraging language, self-expression, exploration, and positive relationships.
