Description

GENERAL FUNCTIONS:

Under the supervision of their manager and following Association policies, the Assistant Teacher coordinates daily activities in an early learning program, ensuring a safe and nurturing environment for young children. They assist the Lead Teacher in supervision, guidance, and general care.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Implement developmentally appropriate lesson plans and participate in daily activities; monitor safety and engage students throughout the day.
2. Serve as a positive role model to staff and children.
3. Build positive relationships with staff, families, and children through caring interactions, effective communication, and motivational support.
4. Maintain accurate participant records and documentation as required.
5. Ensure the safety and cleanliness of learning environments and classrooms.
6. Follow emergency procedures and communicate any concerns to the supervisor to ensure children's safety.
7. Uphold YMCA core values when working within the YMCA facilities and community.
8. Comply with all regulations from the Department of Children and Families, YoungStar, and other agencies.
9. Attend all required staff meetings and training sessions.
10. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

1. Must be at least 18 years old.
2. Meet Child Care Licensing requirements, such as completing an early childhood education course, holding a certificate from an approved childcare training program, or being qualified through the Wisconsin Child Care Registry.
3. Willing to obtain CPR, First Aid, AED, and other certifications as required.
4. Experience in a licensed early learning program is preferred.
5. Demonstrate a sincere interest in and ability to support children's needs and promote positive outcomes.
6. Ability to establish positive relationships with others.
7. Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
8. Exhibit YMCA core values: caring, respect, honesty, and responsibility.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Must be able to lift at least 40 lbs., work indoors and outdoors, assume low postures, and engage physically with children. Good vision and hearing are necessary to ensure safety.
