Job Location: Mukwonago YMCA - Mukwonago, WI
Position Type: Part Time
Salary Range: $16.00 - $18.00 Hourly
Description

GENERAL FUNCTIONS:

Under the supervision of their manager and following Association policies, the Assistant Teacher coordinates daily activities in an early learning program, ensuring a safe and nurturing environment for young children. They assist the Lead Teacher with supervision, guidance, and general care.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Implement developmentally appropriate lesson plans and participate in daily activities, engaging children and ensuring safety at all times.
  2. Serve as a role model to staff and students.
  3. Build positive relationships with staff, families, and children, providing support, guidance, and maintaining effective communication.
  4. Maintain accurate participant records and documentation as required.
  5. Ensure safety and cleanliness of learning spaces and classrooms.
  6. Follow emergency procedures to ensure child safety, communicating any concerns to supervisors.
  7. Uphold YMCA core values when working within the facilities and community.
  8. Comply with regulations from the Department of Children and Families, Young Star, and other agencies.
  9. Attend all required staff meetings and training sessions.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  1. Must be at least 18 years old.
  2. Meet Child Care Licensing requirements, such as completing an early childhood education course, holding an approved assistant childcare teacher certificate, or being qualified through the Wisconsin Child Care Registry.
  3. Willing to obtain CPR, First Aid, AED, and other certifications as required.
  4. Prior experience in a licensed early learning program is preferred.
  5. Demonstrate a genuine interest in and ability to support diverse children's needs and develop positive outcomes.
  6. Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with others.
  7. Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
  8. Exhibit caring, respect, honesty, and responsibility in all work interactions.
Work Environment and Physical Demands

Must be capable of lifting at least 40 lbs, working indoors and outdoors, and engaging in physical activities with children. Ability to maintain visual and auditory contact with children and assume low postures as needed for safety and engagement.
