Job summary

1199-Seiu seeks an Assistant Teacher to support the Head Teacher in creating a positive learning environment for children aged 2–5. You will assist in daily activities, supervise the classroom, and maintain safety for kids in both indoor and outdoor spaces.

You will report incidents promptly, participate in meetings, and communicate with parents to ensure a secure, trusting atmosphere. A CDA and certification are required; bilingual applicants are a plus.

Qualifications

  • Must have a High School Diploma or GED.
  • Assistant Teacher Certification and CDA required.
  • Minimum two years of teaching or child care for ages 2-5.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and online assessment tools.
  • Knowledge of developmental milestones and early childhood pedagogy.
  • Bilingual abilities are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Notify Head Teacher of personal difficulties related to children, parents, staff.
  • Plan and implement center projects and programs as assigned.
  • Use positive phrasing with children.
  • Work with individuals and small groups of children as directed.
  • Supervise the classroom as directed by Head Teacher.
  • Ensure safety and well-being of children at all times, in classroom and playgrounds.
  • Supervise children in fire drills.
  • Maintain positive relationships with parents for security.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management

Job description

Responsibilities:
  • Assists the Head Teacher in preparing and maintaining the prepared environment.
  • Reports any incident or accident immediately. Prepares a written report stating date, time, nature of the incident or accident, and action taken. Responsible for promptly reporting the incident or accident to the Director.
  • Attends meetings as requested.
  • Notifies the Head Teacher immediately of personal difficulties related to children, parents, and staff.
  • Assists in planning and implementing other center projects and programs assigned by the Head Teacher or Director.
  • Utilizes positive phrasing of directives when with children.
  • Works with individual and small groups of children as directed by the Head Teacher.
  • Supervises the classroom as directed by the Head Teacher.
  • Responsible for the safety and well-being of children at all times, in the classroom and on the playgrounds.
  • Supervises children in the execution of fire drills.
  • Maintains positive relationships with parents to give them a feeling of security in leaving their children at the center.
  • Perform additional duties and projects as assigned by management
Qualifications:
  • Must have a High School Diploma or (GED) required. Some college-level coursework in Education and/or applicable college degree preferred
  • Must have an Assistant Teacher Certification and a minimum of two (2) years teaching and/or providing child care for young children (ages 2-5 years old)
  • Child Development Associate (CDA)
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills - oral, written, and listening
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint); ability to navigate diverse online assessment tools
  • Knowledge of developmental milestones and Best Practices in Early Childhood Education Pedagogy
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety Practices and Guidelines
  • Bilingual a plus
