Southwest Oklahoma Community Action Group, Inc. provides a non‑exempt position to assist in the early childhood classroom. The role supports the Teacher in implementing lesson plans, meal service, documentation, cleaning, bus monitoring, and assistance with children who have disabilities.
Pay Levels
- Level1:$13.00 hourly– Entry level. Must plan to obtain CDA.
- Level2:$13.50 hourly– Has CDA or Child Development Assistant Certificate.
- Level3:$15.00 hourly– Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education.
Supervisory Relationships
Directly supervised by the School Supervisor. Receives general instructions from the Teacher. Position does not have supervisory duties and guides volunteers.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist the Teacher in implementing daily lesson plans and other center activities. Focus on preparing children to transition to Kindergarten by encouraging social, emotional, and academic skills. Eat meals with the children to promote social skills.
- Directly interact with children and participate in their daily activities.
- Promote parent interest and recruit volunteers to participate in center activities. Document all in‑kind volunteer time and donations monthly.
- Assist in medical/dental screenings, mental health screenings (including observation notes), and IEP development and child development screenings.
- Serve as a bus monitor on transportation routes assigned by the School Supervisor. Count children when boarding and exiting bus and perform a walk‑through to the back of the bus at the end of each route.
- Sweep and mop classrooms, clean the children’s bathroom, and sanitize children’s bedding and toys as required by Head Start and DHS Licensing guidelines.
- Complete paperwork and reports as required, including children’s folders, anecdotal notes, and tracking of services.
- Assist with paperwork and/or computer data entry as assigned.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Performance Expectations
- Maintain confidentiality of client data and sensitive program information.
- Ensure children’s safety by enforcing safety rules and procedures, including wearing closed‑toe shoes and following bus safety rules.
- Comply with program procedures, licensing guidelines and SOCAG Personnel Policies and adhere to Performance Standards.
- Attend training as required. Maintain any training or certification requirements. Training may require evenings, weekends, and/or overnight travel.
- Provide a positive learning environment for the children through encouragement and interaction.
- Work positively with children ages 3‑5, including those with disabilities and families from low‑income and minority backgrounds.
- Complete written documentation and computer data entry as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED with experience in Early Childhood or child care as paid or volunteer service. CDA or higher education is a plus. Must be on the OK Registry within 6 months. Must study and obtain Reliability Certification for observations in Teaching Strategies GOLD during first year. Current First Aid/AED/Pediatric CPR required.
- Oklahoma driver’s license required with acceptable motor vehicle record and state minimum insurance.
- Annual Tuberculin screen and initial physical required.
- Negative pre‑employment drug screen required with current photo identification. Ongoing drug testing during employment per SOCAG Personnel Policies.
- Criminal background checks, including fingerprinting, required per Oklahoma statutes and program regulations.
Working Conditions
- Must be able to bend, kneel, stand, sit on the level of the children served, lift up to 50 pounds, and use a bleach solution for cleaning.
- Must be available during scheduled hours. Attendance is important.
- Must interact positively with children using appropriate words and actions.
- Must respond and assist during emergency medical care, safety, fire prevention, and sanitation of children and center environment.
