Job summary

YMCA of Greater Brandywine is seeking an Assistant Teacher to support a safe, educational environment for children. You will supervise students, engage with them to foster development, and maintain accurate records. The role requires a HS diploma or GED, 2,500 hours of childcare experience, and CDA certification where applicable.

DHS compliance and routine duties are included. The YMCA emphasizes family-friendly benefits, ongoing training, and commitment to community through youth development

• 30 credit hours in early childhood, elementary or related field education
• 15 college credit hours and one year related care experience
• Current CDA certificate preferred/required

What You’ll Do

• Maintain supervision of all students.
• Provide a safe, clean, and risk-free environment.
• Engage with the children to encourage their development and involvement in activities.
• Maintain maintenance records, including, but not limited to: accident and incident reports, sign in/out sheets, attendance records.
• Greet parents and children daily and report or direct parental concerns to the lead teacher or director.
• Use positive guidance to support children.
• Follow DHS procedures and help others do as well.
• Provide care for the needs of children.
• Ensures compliance with all YGBW policies and standard operating procedures.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

What You’ll Need

• Must have a high school diploma or GED and 2,500 hours of service (2 years) of childcare experience preferred
• 30 credit hours of early childhood, elementary or related human services field education
• 15 college credit hours and one-year experience related to the care
• 2,500 hours of service
• Current CDA certificate
• Must keep an up-to-date DHS file
• Obtain and maintain all new hire certifications and trainings within 90 days of hire
