Job summary

PHILLIPS Programs for Children and Families is seeking an Assistant Teacher for its private special education day schools. The role supports teachers in planning, behavior management, and student supervision within a day program for children with emotional and behavioral needs.

The position is full-time during daytime hours. Responsibilities include organizing the classroom, assisting with instruction, communicating with families and staff, and monitoring student safety on and off campus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in fields such as Education, Psychology, Sociology, and Criminal Justice is preferred.
• Experience in a special needs school environment is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Organize classroom furniture and equipment.
• Write reports in relevant subject areas.
• Communicate with parents, PHILLIPS Programs staff and outside professionals.
• Record and report behavior data.
• Assist in individual, small and large group instruction as directed by the teacher.
• Aid in daily organizational planning and supervise the classroom in the absence of the teacher.
• Assist in medication administration, data collection, and other tasks as assigned by the teacher.
• Supervise students to ensure safety at all times (bus, playground, off campus).
• Implement individual and classroom behavior programs.

Students spend half of the day in a classroom receiving their academic instruction, and half of the day on the work site learning the construction trades. Building Futures is recruiting an Assistant Teacher for their program!

What the Assistant Teacher does:

In coordination with the Teacher, Behavior and Related Services Staff, the Assistant Teacher provides assistance to teacher in programming for students in class. The Assistant Teacher assists the teacher in any of the following:

• Organizing classroom furniture and equipment.
• Writing reports in relevant subject areas.
• Communicating with parents, PHILLIPS Programs staff and non-PHILLIPS Programs professionals.
• Recording and reporting behavior data.
• Assists in individual, small and large group instruction as directed by and coordinated with teacher.
• Assists in daily organizational planning and supervises classroom in absence of teacher.
• Assists in other general areas such as: medication administration, data collection, and other relevant tasks as assigned by teacher.
• Supervises students to ensure safety at all times, including bus duty, playground duty and off campus.
• Implements individual and classroom behavior programs.

What the Assistant Teacher brings to the team:
