Job summary

Vaco by Highspring is seeking an Assistant Superintendent to support commercial construction projects in Fort Lauderdale and Miami, FL. This hands-on role works with the Site Superintendent, Project Manager, field teams, and trade partners to ensure safety, schedules, and quality align with drawings and specs.

Ideal candidates have 2–3+ years in field-based roles, understand scheduling, read drawings, and coordinate with subcontractors.

Qualifications

• 2–3+ years in commercial construction in a field-based role.
• Experience supervising or coordinating a construction workforce.
• Strong scheduling, sequencing, and critical-path understanding.
• Working knowledge of construction scheduling software.
• Ability to read and interpret drawings and specs.
• Experience coordinating with field teams, subs, and PM.
• Strong jobsite safety, quality, and documentation knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Support Site Superintendent and Project Manager with day-to-day field execution.
• Supervise field personnel and trade partners to meet safety, productivity, quality, and schedule targets.
• Assist with project safety requirements and maintain field safety documentation.
• Monitor schedules and flag delays or conflicts to leadership.
• Coordinate with field engineers, PMs, estimators, and trades to ensure compliance with drawings and specs.
• Assist in planning with execution plans and look-ahead schedules.
• Review contracts and subcontracts to mitigate construction risks.

Job description

Our client is seeking an Assistant Superintendent to support commercial construction projects in the Fort Lauderdale and Miami markets. This position works closely with the Site Superintendent, Project Manager, field teams, and trade partners to execute projects safely, maintain schedules, and ensure construction meets drawings, specifications, quality standards, and project requirements. The role is well suited for someone with hands-on field experience who is ready to continue developing their construction leadership and project management capabilities.

Core Responsibilities

• Support the Site Superintendent and Project Manager with day-to-day field execution and construction activities.
• Supervise and coordinate field personnel and trade partners, ensuring safety, productivity, quality, and schedule expectations are met.
• Support implementation of project safety requirements and maintain required field and safety documentation.
• Monitor construction schedules, identify potential delays or work conflicts, and communicate issues to project leadership.
• Coordinate with field engineers, project management, estimators, and trade partners to ensure construction complies with drawings and specifications.
• Assist with project planning, including project execution plans and resource-loaded three-week look-ahead schedules.
• Review contracts and subcontracts and assist with identifying and mitigating potential construction risks.

Must-Have Qualifications

• 2-3+ years of commercial construction experience in a Field Engineer, Field Coordinator, Foreman, Lead Hand, Assistant Superintendent, or similar field-based position.
• Experience supervising or coordinating a construction workforce.
• Strong understanding of construction scheduling, sequencing, and critical-path activities.
• Working knowledge of construction scheduling software.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
• Experience coordinating with field teams, subcontractors/trade partners, and project management.
• Strong understanding of jobsite safety, quality, and documentation requirements.

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

• Experience with Primavera P6 scheduling software.
• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.
• Journeyman or relevant construction trade credential.
• Experience developing or supporting resource-loaded look-ahead schedules.
• Experience supporting commercial building projects.
