Position Summary

The Assistant Summer Day Camp Counselor is responsible to the El Cajon Corps Youth Programs to assist the Corps Officers in maintaining a safe, educational, and fun Christian environment for participating children in support of the values of Jesus Christ and The Salvation Army. They will assist and support Counselors in various activities and be part of a discipleship group focused on personal spiritual growth and development.

Essential Functions
  1. Ensure the health and safety of students while maintaining a clean and safe work area.
  2. Communicate effectively with students and co-workers.
  3. Assist in creating and developing games, recreational, and academic activities for children from kindergarten through 5th grade.
  4. Supervise students and volunteers according to The Salvation Army policies and procedures.
  5. Help monitor children during transitions between facilities and field trips.
  6. Observe and support students as they complete tasks, noting strengths and areas for improvement.
  7. Maintain audio/video equipment, books, toys, and furnishings.
  8. Operate equipment such as projectors, DVD players, speakers, TVs, game consoles, and computers.
  9. Serve snacks and clean up after snack time.
  10. Arrive on time and be flexible with hours for additional help if needed.
  11. Correct or reprimand students under the guidance of Counselors for actions that risk health and safety or disrupt activities, following Day Camp Guidelines.
  12. Be responsible for the welfare of each participant and strive to solve problems.
  13. Maintain good morale among children and parents at all times.
  14. Report any issues with students, co-workers, or volunteers to the Director, Corps Officers, or Business Administrator, and document concerns appropriately.
  15. Attend required training sessions, including child safety, CPR, and fleet safety training.
  16. Participate in all orientation meetings and classes.
  17. Maintain a professional appearance and wear the Day Camp Staff Uniform during work hours.
  18. Assist with setup and cleanup at the start and end of the camp season.
  19. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director or Corps Officers.
Working Conditions

Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, run, jump, and twist intermittently or continuously. Capable of grasping, pushing, pulling objects, reaching overhead, and carrying supplies. Proficient in operating computers, telephones, and similar technology. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
