Overall Job Summary

This position is responsible for proficiency in all areas of a retail operation. The role serves as the second in charge of store operations, assisting the Store Manager. Duties include providing leadership and direction to the store team, ensuring a positive customer experience, performing operational activities, and maintaining a safe and productive environment for team members, customers, and vendors. Training team members on policies and procedures is also essential.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
2. Work scheduled shifts, including varied hours, nights, weekends, and overtime as needed.
3. Promote a safe work environment by following policies and procedures.
4. Support selling initiatives by engaging with customers and promoting products/services.
5. Perform duties such as assisting with store operations, supporting team members, executing merchandising activities, handling deposits, organizing workflow, merchandise recovery, price changes, resolving customer issues, enforcing loss prevention, operating cash registers, and caring for live animals.
6. Complete documentation for all duties performed.
7. Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Previous retail leadership experience is required; pet/live animal knowledge is preferred.
• Must be at least 18 years old with a valid driver’s license.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred; ability to read, write, and count accurately is essential.

Preferred Skills and Abilities

• Ability to perform all team member responsibilities.
• Pet and live animal knowledge is strongly preferred.
• Strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
• Basic computer skills.

Working Conditions

• Indoor environment with moderate noise; outdoor areas are hard surfaces with adequate lighting and temperature.
• Shifts generally range from 4 to over 8 hours.
• Promote safety and adhere to safety guidelines.

Physical Requirements

• Frequently lift or reach merchandise overhead.
• Stand, kneel, crouch, climb ladders, and move throughout the store.
• Operate store equipment and process information accurately.
• Read, write, and count accurately; communicate effectively.
• Complete training and certifications; travel and drive as needed.
